A fellow deer farmer called me this afternoon with bad news. He had lost two fawns to EHD. Both about a month old, they had all the classic tell-tale signs. No matter how much I see it it still makes me sick to my stomach. I just finished giving all mine the vaccine. But that don't mean I'm bullet proof! Now got to step up my spraying. We haven't had a rain here in north Louisiana in over a month. Hope all my other fellow state farmers are ready. We got a long hot summer ahead!!!!! DCW JASON

No, I m pretty sure it was not done. Its several hours drive to get that done I believe from here. You ask this as you disagree with my first post or?

Jason, talked to some folks who said it's pretty bad in Florida also! Good Luck down there. If you could only get as much attention from the feds to worry as much about EHD as they do CWD who knows what might get done!

Bright pink frothy blood coming forth from mouth and nostrils is usually indicative of lung hemorrhage. That's always been the case on ehd deaths I've viewed! Robert, we pretty much do what you suggested already. These are secondary to fighting it from the inside of course, but spraying seems to help me sleep better!

I would like some input as to this hitting your farm or someone you know and where? It kind of paints a picture to extent and direction its going. Thanks in advance-Jason DCW

I have heard of some cases in Texas already but seems almost impossible with the severe drought we are in. We usually experience EHD in August and September. Some deer show signs while others don't. Almost all of our deer have positive titres for either EHD or Bluetongue or both while only a few ever get seriously ill.

pretty common in texas with northern influence genetics over 50%. When caught early- drooling, heads down, walking on egg shells... we have had excellent luck with 3 cc excede per 100 lbs sq, 1 cc per 100 lbs banamine im and 2 cc per 100 lbs dexamethasone im to the whole pen

I just received news of more cases of ehd on two seperate farms in the last two days! I hate the stuff myself! Lost my fair share to it!

We are here to help....we have several customers in LA, Gene Trahan, Bill Holdman, Eddie Touchstone and others. We are currently at Brett Niles place in MO (The Oaks). I have my guys installing here, I depart for Rancho Bernalejo in Mexico. I will have access to email and can get system packages out, while I am in Mexico. It is like trying to stop a wildfire once EHD is in a herd....we have completely eliminated EHD from many of our customers farms. A thermal Fogger, using Permethrin at dusk or just before, is the next best thing to our system. You can just set our timer to automatically mist your entire pen(s), as many times as you want. My email- [email protected], I saw several customers posts on "deer need help with fly relief" in health and wellness. Check it out and let me know if we can help.

Well I wouldn't COMPLETELY go that far Paul, no disrespect!

No disrespect taken. Please visit www.NAWPS.com and view our customer testimonials. We have many customers that since 2008/2009 when they were installed, haven't experienced a case. We reduced 1 well known East Texas farm from 139 cases in 2009 - we installed in the fall of 2009 and in 2010 0 cases, 2011 1 case. We have had several customers with only partial coverage(select pens) with 0 cases while experiencing it in other pens. When folks don't alter the original design and follow recommendations on insecticide and spray times, it's been pretty amazing. If anyone would like a reference list, please email and I will forward a reference list and testimonials.

Please, don't mistake any of my sharing customers experiences as arrogant or audastic.

LBC is stating the truth in west and north central La. The April rains and temperatures have been conducive to midge production here. Several deer farmers have lost significant portions of their herds to EHD....yes necropsies were perforrmed and EHD confirmed...and many of those farms are on strict vaccination protocols, which have had little effect in thwarting the disease. The most frequently affected deer are the 50%+ Northern Genetic animals. The $500 wonder cure has been virtually ineffective on the animals that have contracted EHD. Now before you go off critiquing my post.....I have just given you my observations of recent weeks. I don't care if you believe in the vaccine or the expensive treatment shot, I am simply stating what I have seen in my area.
