Ehd vaccinate or not

I wasn't trying to get anything stirred up I was just wanting to know if those that had vaccinated still lost there deer virues the ones that might not had been vaccinated. I'm just trying to figure out if folks that vaccinated and lost deer will waste the money the next year. Thanks for all the comments

Skip

I am not saying that I don't believe in a vaccine that is being developed, or that one can't be developed. What I was trying to say is that the vaccine I used and have tried have not worked. I hope for everyone's sake your vaccine works and we can all put EHD out of business in stead of it putting us out of business.

Skip is a very stand up and forthright guy. I have known him a long time and he will tell us just the way it is, right, wrong or indifferent.

Thanks for all you are doing Skip and tell the rest of the guys in Oklahoma I said Thanks. Good Luck!!! Keep us posted!

Its all good.I was a believer in a vaccine early on when I used the one Bill developed for Missouri.Beleive me I have my own doubts as well, but we must keep trying and eventually we will hit on something that will work. This all came about from an USAHA (United Animal Health Association)conference. There are lectures about midge flies and the virus that effects our animals.Believe it or not there are some people that have the health of our animals in mind and not regulating us to the point of extinction.

If a state has the ability to send representation to these events I highly recommend to them they do.While during a short break I was approached by a lady named Dr Debbie Cunningham who is from Oklahoma, and the ball started rolling so here we are 2 1/2 years later we actually have a product in our hands. She is the reason this happened and the fact that Whitetails of Oklahoma sent representation to Buffalo New York.

I cannot express how Important it is to send people from your state to these meetings as everything the USDA does is from recommendations from the USAHA.Thanks for the kind words Eric sometimes they are hard to come by on here.

We have compiled a lot of research on EHD. When thinking about purchasing something, look for and ask for data that proves the product ;)

God bless and good luck

OK I have recieved some information from Dr Debbie Cunningham about the vaccine research.

Of the 20 deer tested with the Oklahoma vaccine tighter levels were elevated, but not all were the same.Even though some were in the 90's some were in the 40's.

Her recomondation was to give a third booster shot 3 weeks prior to when the midge flies begin to be a problem

That way the ones that were below 60(60 being an acceptable level)would be elevated to an acceptable level.

So give the 2 shots in winter when handling your animals and dart another booster 3 weks prior to the ehd season.

I have not recieved the actual numbers yet ,but I am going to cross refrence them w/ my pedigrees to see if there is some constincy w/ genetics to animals w/ higher tighter levels.

I have a theory of which ones had the higher levels but will know more after I get the actual results.
