Im playing around wit the idea of adding muledeer to my farm. I beleave Texas is closed to exporting whitetail but can muledeer be shiped out of texas? Im having a hard time finding anyone that has muledeer In a state that doent have CWD. Indiana wont let any in if its not a clean state. Thanks

I believe there is some mule deer farming in Mexico, I believe it was a guy from California who had a wild hunting place in northern Senora

Thanks Michael & Curtis for the info on Muledeer. What's the difference in raising muledeer than whitetail? I will give Travis a call thanks again. Jim

Dave Creegan has Mule deer in Pa and PA is a cwd free state.

Jim, Check your visitor message as I have sent you four names of people with mule deer that seem to be doing well with them.

Jim,

The differences between whitetail and mule deer from my experience are:

Whitetail are more spookier, mule deer are calm if bottle feed even more so.

Mule deer will not do well if kept in a wet dirt area, they like it dry. A good pen for them is on a hillside which drains well, no standing water. Mule deer will have to be wormed often at least every 40 days. They do well on good hay with pellets and some grain, not much corn in my opinion. They seem to get digestive problems from to much corn. I use wheat, peas and oats. They will love extra brush each day in their feed, leaves etc. I think back East they will need a method of fly control. If interested I have one to share.

I think most babies born back East will have to be bottle fed for them to survive well. This is just my opinion.

Jack if you dont mind i would like to give you a call and pick your brain.I have just the set up that you were talking about i have great drainage and lots of brush with pasture. If you want send me your # in private. Thanks Jim

Jim,

Check your email, I've sent my number and other information.

Jim, I hunted Mule deer last year in Sonora, Mexico and found them to be very interesting animals. After I was home for a few weeks I decided to buy a couple of Mulies just to have around, I figured if I was taking care of several pens of Whitetails I could take care of a few Mule deer. After much research on them I hooked up with Dave Creegan, he was super to work with. I am now the owner of 6 Mule deer does and they seem to be doing fine.Dave sold me these does at a reasonable price and has helped me with any questions I have had concerning them. I would reccomend Dave to anyone. I also will tell you that I have had a TON of interest in them. I dont have anything to sell at this point but I could sell 100 of them today if I had them to sell. Feel free to call me, I'll tell you what little I know about them. 417 880 4239 Darren. Also call Dave he is in PA and they are a CWD free state. By the way, I am in Missouri.

Darren, Thank you for your response, I to have hunted muley's in 6 western states and their a very neet animal to be around. Not to say my whitetails are not but i love the idea of bring a little bit of the west back home here.I moved back to Indiana from Oregon and miss seeing them every day.How do your muleys handle the humity and the rain? Did you have to build any special cover for them? How fun would it be to see whitetail and muley fawns bouncing around the pins together. Thanks Again Jim
