What is the story with the "sleepers" in my fawns eyes. At first I thought is was just like sleepy stuff but now two of the get it. One is actually like a slimey stuff in its eyes with hard crusty stuff in the corners. The other has it kinda hardening around the edges of her eyelids. What is it and should I be worried about it?

I am brand new to this site and the main reason I joined is to ask the very same question. I am raising a 2 week old buck fawn and he has the same problem. It just started yesterday in one eye and today has spread to both. I have another buck fawn in the pen with him. Should I remove the other fawn?

Welcome El Jefe, This site is full of good info and also full of it like me! To answer you and Woodys guestion I would say it is conjunctivites and no it will probably not hurt. They will clear on thier own usually. You can help along with eye ointment from your vet or feed store. Hold on and someone will give you the name of the ointment. Just one old "FADING" mans opinion! ZZ

ZZ . do you mean Vetropolycin ? It's what I'd use if I had to. I usually just feed some Aureomycin that takes care of most puzzy eye problems too !! Fading ??? Heck your a youngster !!! Just a thought !! lol :)

I have a question Wooden Acres.... I was wondering where i could get the Aureomycin, and i was wondering if i could use it on ault deer? Do you just put ir in their feed or.... Let me know. Thanks a lot.

Aureomycin can usually be found at any feed store. It can be mixed right in with their feed. I feed it to my adults on a regular basis...expecially when does are fawning and when bucks are shedding velvet. It does help fight against mild infections.

The probelm with the fawns having junk in their eyes is usually bad this time of year at my house because the weather starts drying out and also it is hay season. Alot of dirt and pollen in the air is a big cause of the the eye junk. Most deer learn to clean each other's eyes and keep them clean.

Nothing serious to worry about. GOOD LUCK with the fawns.

You can buy Aueromycin crumbles from most feed mills and places like Fleet Farm stores, just about anyplace that sells animal products I just bought a bag yesturday from Fleet Farm . Yes I feed my doe's too especially around fawning for the added stess of the fawning itself as well as their constant running around keeping tract of who's theirs . lol It's pretty safe but read the labeling or ask your sales rep for some help . I like the stuff but it's just my opinion nothing more . Have a good one , just a thought !!

Since my fawns aren't really eating much solid food at all yet, can i mix it in a bottle? Maybe mix it into a paste or syrup and squirt it in their mouth with a syringe?
