The feed I'm using has minimum 4% crude fat.

Im wanting to increase the fat content in my bucks feed around October 1st.

How much should I increase it? Is 8% too much?

7-8% is where I like mine at. Keeps them looking good, not too fat, and not showing ribs.

I do not recommend feeding deer cotton seeds,  If increasing your fat intake you need to increase your amount of probiotics in their diet, Deer do not have Gall bladders and have to rely on bile in their intestines to break down a lot of high fats in their system . If you do increase no more than a 7 to 8 % total intake.

Thank you for the information.

Has anyone tried mixing rice bran with the feed?

Or would I be better off contacting my feed rep and just have them increase the fat content in the feed?

If using rice bran make sure its a stabilized form, I would do a mix of flame roasted soy beans and roasted barley .Higher bypass proteins and bypass fats and can be absorbed into their system faster and easier to digest, metabolize and your TDN rate will be higher and ADF lower.
