I just overhauled my fawn facility and the only thing i want to do inside it be able to keep the temp. controlled so it dont get hot. I have windows and a exhaust fan but last year that didnt seem like enough. I was wondering what yall thought about using an air conditioner? Any tips on keeping the temp. controlled is appreciated. Thanks to all and good Luck!

Use a water cooler fan. It keeps the air moving, and the mist will help them keep cool. A air conditioner scares me because of the instant temp change if they run out.

Reed,

What if the temp is set 5 degrees below the outside temp? In other words... if the temp outside is 85 keep the ac unit at 80 with the exhaust fans on all the time? Anyone else?

Your also in PA. I was was thinking of OKIE hot. Like 110, with humidity.

I am in the process of having a 30x40 built and was planning on putting my fawns in there when they are born and was curious as well on how everyone deals with the heat? i am down here in this okie heat

I use fans with mine. I would make sure that you have enough air circulation and wouldn't use an air conditioner. With proper water, feed, milk and air circulation they will be fine. They live in the elements everyday without much AC...

i wasn't real sure how hot the shop would get it is insulated but i haven't had a shop before so i wanted to make sure the babies would be ok in there. thanks

Michael said it best. Some good fans for circulation will be more than adaquate.

A few years ago I had my fawns in a fenced off area in the garage with a door opening into an outside pen. I was also worried about it being too hot for them, so I put a fan in the garage outside of the fencing. No matter how hot it was in the garage and cool outside those little buggers would lay in the garage right in front of the fan. When it rains they also stand under their shelters looking outside. My deer are only a little spoiled!

We use a fan in our fawning shed and they do great. We blow it where they can lay in front of it or move over in the corner and get away from it. Most lay in front of it. The blowing air also keeps alot of the gnats and flies from bothering them as bad. We also sit infront of it when we bottle feed and it keeps the skeeters at bay. I don't like to use bug spray as the fawns seem like there always sucking or chewing on a pantleg or shirt sleeve and I doubt the deet would do them much good. Rick

I built mine with three of the sides open and left big over hangs to keep most of rain from blowing in this way it stays same temp as it is out side. It actually stays little cooler cause it is shaded inside shed don't even need a fan.Take look at pictures in my profile.
