I have two fawns that have been sick probably since day one. I went through the scours with them, got that taken care of and then the fever started in for about two weeks now. They were prescribed Naxcel, given 2cc, for three days and then then they just finished Baytril 100 for three days. They are still running 103.5-104.2 fevers. They are eating decent, but just don't know what to do for them. They were born the end of May and were triplets. I keep their pens sanitary. I wash their bottles at every feeding. I steralize once a week. When I had their stools checked the fist time, they couldn't find anything. I would appreciate any help.

Thanks.

I can always tell when they are running temp. They don't want to eat and they are laying around.

I have two thermometers that I got the start of the season that I keep out there in the toolbox, so I wouldn't think it would be that. Also I check the other fawns temps, and they are normal. Thanks for the suggestion. I appreciate all help.

Contact [email protected] for suggestions. I would say that they have an ongoing infection somewhere. How do their umbilical cords look? How are they breathing? IF it's pneumonia, Baytril injections daily is usually the drug of choice. A vet may also prescribe a steroid to lower swelling of lung tissues. I would say Baytril for 4-6 wks every day, plus possibly a second antibiotic. I am not a DVM, please consult one for his/her advice. If you are in MO, you may wish to contact Dr. Shipley at the University of Illinois, Champaign Urbana. He is a great man, as is Dr. Ables in TX. Best of luck- please try to save them!
