aws2011, thank you for your post. I think you may have shed some light on a reecnt fawn loss we had.
We had a buck fawn on our farm who was perfectly fine up until the day before he died. A while back his brother died unexpectedly in a matter of minutes. He acted fine when I went out to feed and water hi, but when the owner came through she noticed he was trying to urinate, and couldn't. We tried all day to get him to go, and the vet even looked at him and oculdn't find anything out og the ordinary. He died the next day (more likely due to stress of being handled) at the emergency clinic. While we did not have a necropsy done (it was too heartbreaking to even think of that), it now makes me wonder if they both had a heart condition, and it was just a matter of time before it hit them both?
You are welcome llwoon.
This little girl is still helping others. SO thankful her death has shed some light on other fawns.
I had a buck fawn pass last year from Urinary Calculi. He continuously tried to urinate but couldn't. We did everything we could but the blockage was too far up. Ammonium Chloride did no good. Could it have possibly been Urinary Calculi? I know once mine get moved to the pen, I am unable to monitor urinating like I can the first few days of intake. We just happen to see him strain to pee and caught it.
This one, I don't know why, but it has gotten me folks. This doesn't happen. For some reason I can not shake this one off and move on. I look for her bottle and nipple in my dishwater when I wash my bottle. Also, Once I get out to my pen to feed, drop my bottles in the bottle rack I say oh crap I forgot to make her bottles. Then I remember she is not here. I took down her bottle rack yesterday. I could not look at it empty any longer. I NEVER DO THIS......
This little girl was more special than I realized... She lingers in my heart.
