Helllo,

Agan we have been experiencing a high death rate in the fawns left on mammas. We pulled one big boy who is the brother to one we are already hand feeding and he was starved (mom diahrea and getting thin) and he has lumpy jaw. He also has stuff running out of one ear and so turns his head sideways. I am assuming this is ear infection and not so much a problem in the brain...yet?

Anyway, we have been treating him and he is responding very well. He is eating good and isn't falling down and wobbling now. He is able to swallow milk although it is slow going as the infection in his jaw must be a hinderance.

Should we lance this lump under his chin? It is in the fleshy part between his jaw bone. The goo running out of his ear has me concerned.

Will vaccinate with Fusoguard if we can get him well as we have done with all of our other hand feds thanks to this list.

Thanks,

Kimber

How are you treating him........albon will usually help with the lumpy jaw........3 to 5 cc's in his milk or squirt down his throat for a few days.....However, i do not know what other antibiotics you have given him and we don't want to over drug the little guy....make sure yuou give him probiotics if you have been giving him antibiotics as his belly will get upset from the meds killing all the good bacteria i his stomach........I'm not sure about your high death do you vaccinate your adult deer yearly??

all does vaccinated for clostridia in spring. Vet lanced puss filled lump and put him on penG and LA 200

AND probiotics
