Just wanting some thoughts on a fawn that is beginning to lose her hair. She is a runt triplet and just over 3 weeks old. She has been eating great and stool has been fine the entire time but lately she go an infection in her ear where she had her ear tag. We removed the eartag and got all that business looking good. But, Now she is losing hair and looks scraggly. From the very beginning she had different hair from her wombmates and its extremely soft compared to the other fawns. Eating and stooling good, dont worry about the hair? I am just wondering if there is anything you guys would suggest? Thanks alot!

I had the exact same situation last year, a runt triplet buck started losing his hair at about 4 weeks of age. You could pull on it and massive amounts would come out. I could not figure it out because the others who drank the same milk and ate the same things as him didnt have this problem. he eventually had almost no red hair or spots by July. But he started growing new and by the last week of July had his full autum coat. He got his winter hair in on schedual with other deer and had no problems with shedding at all this winter. My guess is Yours will be fine , she may get a little ugly for a while but she'll grow new hair and get back to normal.

A word of caution........we had one that lost all of its hair. Each time we put him outside, he bacame sunburned. We finally took a sleeve from a sweat shirt and cut 4 holes in it for the legs and kept him from being burned further.
