Fawn mortality

We have a doe that had a single fawn on our property about May 17. We saw the fawn maybe two or three times but not within the last 6 days. How long would it take for the doe's milk bag to dry up if something has happened to the fawn? We thought that maybe having one fawn the milk bag does not always appear really full, or that maybe when she is done feeding the sack will look smaller. We'd appreciate any info in this area anyone could give.

You more than likely saw the fawn the first few days of it's life. It has gotten better at hiding and keeping out of view. I would guess its still alive. As a deer farmer I see the fawns the first few days of their lives but then we see them very seldom till they get bigger and will start to run with their mothers. Our pens are only one acre with mostly grass and we still don't see them very often.
