What is your Fawn Vaccine protocol.....which drug, how many CC's, and why?

One thing I have learned now that I have been in this amazing industry for 2 years now, is that everyone does things a little different, and everyone is willing to share their ideas with each other. Being in Kevin's office has given me the opportunity to learn very quickly, but I am still amazed how different farms use completely different protocols when it comes to their herd's health. I would love to see everyone chime in with a brief post on their health program, so that we may continue to learn from each other.

Hopefully, this thread will grow into a resource for many.

I would love to hear what every one vaccinates fawns and adults with and what time of year and how much do u use?

Check out an article in the latest Alabama deer association magazine

We use our vaccine that has been developed over the past few years covering pneumonia, footrot, jaw abscess, as well as ecoli in 4 different forms. Our vaccine is available to others.

We also use poly-serum@ 6cc per fawn

2cc of some sort of Vit b shot has seemed to be helpful as well.

I am not a big fan of giving fawns shots I believe the strongest antibodies are passed via mom. We focus on prepping our does to fawn. This is starting to pay off in a big way as far as herd health goes.

Here at Whitetail Sales we will have about 60 t0 80 fawns. At around 6 to 12 hours after birth, we will tag and vaccinate. We have had great success over the years using the following protocol.

C&E Fawn Paste (probiotic) Protects against bacterial pathogens in the gut, helps maintain healthy intestinal pH levels, increases feed intake, improves body condition, hyper activates the immune system and aids in scour protection. ½ tube at 6 to 12 hours after birth, then ½ tube 24 hours later

Bovine Ecolizer - K99 E. coli antibodies to provide scour protection for newborn fawns 1/3 tube at 6 to 12 hours after birth

Bar-Vac CD/T – For the immunization of Fawns against enterotoxemia caused by Clostridium Perfringens Types C&D (overeating disease) and tetanus. 2 CC’s Sub-Q

Bovi Sera (Poly Serum) Antiserum for prevention and treatment of pneumonia and enterotoxemia, passive immune failure and shipping fever, and for prevention and treatment of A. pyogenes, Pasteurella multocida, E. coli, Salmonella typhimurium and Mannheimia haemolytica. 5 CC’s Sub-Q

Controlled Iodine – A topical antiseptic used to prevent infection. Spray on umbilical cord area and each hoof at vaccination.

We believe that the above 5 products are essential for every fawn but there are a few others things we use because of OUR particular soil/bacteria issues, therefore, We use 2cc's of fusogard (Helps reduce foot rot and liver abscesses due to Fusobacterium necrophorum.) and 1.5cc's of calf-guard (Rotavirus and coronavirus scour protection for newborn calves).

The main thing to understand here is that we use fusogard and calf-guard because of the bacteria in our soil. You do NOT need to use these products if you do not have these issues. In other words....dont treat for it unless you have that particular problem.

If anybody needs any of these products, please give me a call at the office.

I notice you give shots to fawns Sub-Q. And at least for the Bovi sera it says you can give IM or Sub Q. Is giving it SUB Q just a preference for you??

I appreciate the info you posted, very helpful as I am going to be raising my first fawns this spring

Yes, it is Colin's preference to give the Bovi Sera (poly serum) sub-q
