noticed a 3 month old fawn today has a lump on her jaw. planning on giving her 1 cc of draxin in a dart. think Im on the right track? had one earlier this year but she was only 4-5 weeks old, gave her .6 cc of draxin and the lump was gone in 3 days. Is the vaccine for the fusa bacteria, not sure if i have the name correct, effective if you cant boost it? Anybody out there use fusagard?

Yes i have used the fusogard and it does require a booster....i still had one get the lump on the jaw after being fully vaccinated.......the lump go so big and actually burst on its own..........another one I treated with albon for a few days and the lump went away............good luck everything should work out for you one way or the other.

This is one of the problems I have which I feel is caused for me by irrigation of the ground the deer live on.

I give all deer a fusoguard shot and a booster. Draxin will treat any which start the problem. I feel the fusoguard has cut this problem down to just a few which get it. My guess is the immune system of the ones that get it didn't take up the responce to immune them from the shots.

The fusoguard shots and Draxin are the way to go on this problem.

Thanks for the input folks, hhit her with draxxin this am. Now i have 2 fawns both were weened 10 days ago, with loose stool............tough fawning season for me this year.

yes wormed them earlier this month with safeguard. did my bottle feeding in grass pen so they were eating grass for some time now. one has hair on end and seems to have no pep. darted her .6 cc draxin . see if she perks up. How long does draxxin stay at a sufficient levels.

Jim, Sugarcreek Vet Clinic had a vaccine made for fusobacterium and it has been very effective so far. You might want to have your Vet give them a call and use that instead of the Fusoguard. In the past, we have had several fawns get small lumps on their jaw. Some we treated with Draxxin, some we let go. It seems like they broke open and healed a little faster when using antibiotic but also healed completely if left untreated. I had a 2 year old doe with a bubble on her jaw, treated her with Draxxin. The next day it had broken open and drained and she is good now. Don't think the Draxxin had any effect on making it drain right away, probably more a coincidence.

thanks steve

guess i will just watch and see what happens. she had one earlier, never ruptured just went down after i gave her some draxxin.
