What is the best treatment when a fawn gets real loose? I have a 12 day old fawn started getting loose 2 days ago. Will eat fine in the morning and mid day but not so well in the evening. I have gave it Target Probiotics paste today and yesterday, also a shot of Baytril (spelling ??) tonight.

www.whitetailsales.com has a great product that I have used for the last 3 years. It is called All Natural Correction and it is a gelling product. It is the only thing that I have found that actually helps with loose stools. I use it in every bottle for one day for all feedings and by the next day, they are usually firm and most start to pellet. It does not help with a coccidia infested fawn though. I usually cut the milk replacer in 1/2 for the day too. It is an awesome product and I can't say enough good about it!!

I just had the same problem. See if your vet has any sulfaquinoxiline, give 1 cc on day one and 1 cc on day two and mine cleared right up. This is a great product but you need a vet to get it.

Please don't take this the wrong way...
But you don't know what problem you are trying to correct...
Antibiotic's may make it worse ...It could be he is starting to eat grass or hay...As long as it is taking in an OK amount of milk (Daily) and acting OK...
Pumpkin is a natural solution.
I would watch sticking it or feeding it a bunch of meds without knowing there is a problem,Or you could make it much worse...Just my thoughts...

But you don't know what problem you are trying to correct...

Billie Jo is right the best thing you can do is take a sample to your vet and have them send it off to be cultured.........you don't want to treat something if it does not need treated......this is why when my fawns started having loose stools I sent it off to be cultured and in my case it came back positive for coccidia not good....so now i am trying to aggressively treat the fawns for coccidia.............there are many reasons for the scours and sometimes it could be something that just didn't agree with them which is what i hope is the case for your fawn..........good luck!!
did you up the ozs givin? this will loosen them up. Or too much replacer will do it to. And I'm with BillieJo dont like pumping meds. I like using pumpkin also and it works well.
Good luck finding pumpkin.........if you find it let me know where.......there is a darn shortage or at least that is what i am being told...can't find it anywhere around here in Western PA????!!! Thanks to Virgil I got a few can from him.....he is usually not so nice I must have caught him on a good day.......I did tell him his goats were nice.....that may have did it.

our local store keeps plenty of pumpkin in stock if it is the right stuff, say's 100% pure pumpkin ingredient list is just pumpkin. If someone wants some and cant find it just let me know I will send you some. it is Libbys exact can as in the photo above.

We got some on Ebay for 5$ a can. You just got to watch. We checked with friends and neighbors and even my mother in law and came up with a couple more. I hope we don't need it but it makes you feel better having a few cans on hand. Rick
RlaWhitetails.....you are in the pumpkin producing area for our country this might be why you still have pumpkin there......hopefully you guys have dryer weather there this year so they can harvest the pumpkins!!
Sorry for being so naive. First time rescuer of baby white tail fawn. Found nearly drown in river. We've had her for about 2 wks. Appeared not to be over a week or so when we found her. She has had loose stools since we found her. She drinks goat milk and water. Read that pepto bismol and pedilyte was the route to go to help clear up loose stool. Then read to add pumpkin, are we talking about pumpkin in a can??? If so can anyone tell me for sure how much pumpkin and do you mix in the bottle? How much milk should it be drinking per day if she is approx 4 wks? When does the fawn start pooping pellets? Is it normal for a 4 wk to have loose stools? Any help will be appreciated and I will continue reading the forums. Great info!
