my last 2 born 6hrs old let me tag them give them paste and spray with iodine and never tried to move they are 1 week old and doing great. not sure how old they are but could be nothing. you could give them some fawn energy pack from target probotics that might help to give them a boost of energy.

Need more info... as mentioned above, it could be nothing. The fawns I'm raising spend 95% of their time laying down... I recently opened up a small pen for them and now the other 5% of the time, I get them up and then get stuck chasing them around the pen trying to capture them to get them their bottles. lol

What I would do is pick the fawns up and get them standing...and see if they can walk around on their own. If they can... that shows they've still got strength and if they're eating, I wouldn't worry too much. If they fall down...something is definitely not right...

The fawns are 3 weeks old . Body temp is good. Their eyes focus, they

seem to be paralyzed ? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Steve,

I had a 10 day old fawn do the same thing after a trip to the vet found out the fawn had got dehydrated had to give fluids subQ and tube feed for two days. The fawn did get a little better at first but in the end she did not make it hope you have better luck with yours.

Thank Randy , I have not saw any thing just like this case they are so alert with there eyes. but there flat out. We took pictures last night , this morining they both move there bowels and it smell like beef stew . Did not say that to make you sick but that is what it smell like. And one was like jelly the other had some jelly , but both was brown. We tube them last night with high energy electric lights. Gave 1/2 cc. of draxin ,mix up some probiotics and gave to them. Gave 1200cc ringers under the skin . when I pick them up they had got there themp back up were it should be. I gave them both 5 cc of Dextrose , 3 cc survive D , This morning one of them try to raise up , the other is lot worse shape . At 900 am I am going to give them both a IV and leave the stent in as long as it take . I can till used some help on any ideas that you have .I just do not want to loose these boys

thank you

steve & Faye Bruce thank you very much

What are you feeding them??There is that disease that billie jo was talking about i think its johnes disease!!The fawns the way you explain it might have that as thats what happens it does something to their muscles that shuts down their movements!!They look fine but they just cant move!!I think it only happens with goats milk but not sure!!!

Natural behavior in fawns is to lay flat and motionless when they feel threatened. When you pick up a scared fawn, many times they will go limp and not kick and scream as one might expect.

How old are these Fawns?

I Don't know If I Am following Well...Call If You want.It could be Absolutely Nothing To white Muscle Disease....ECT...Many Things!!

~Things To Know If you call!!!~

What is their Temperature

Always Start At the beginning....

Know Normal Fawn Behavior FIRST AND FOR MOST!!!

Look at the fawn in the field....How did It act Around Mom...How did Mom act,Does she have Milk /does she care about her fawn ECT

Why did you/someone think there was a problem

What was It's temp when pulled....What is it NOW

LOOK THE FAWN OVER...Is there bumps, scratches, Hair Missing,Marks,ECT could a deer have stomped or stepped on them...Could they have hit the fence....

I gotta Go Feed MORE Fawns...But that is a start!!!

Just a start Think through EVERYTHING!!!

Robert,

If you read all the post you will see the fawns are three weeks old and they have given fluids and shots and the fawns still can't/won't move I don't no about you but I have never seen a fawn that was in perfect health at 3 week of age just lay thier and let you poke it with a needle. I'm just sayin.

THis is really odd.......not only cause of the age but that it has happened to two fawns.........do they have any control of their legs? Are they laying in a normal position........can they move their legs at all???

UPDATE, WE HAVE BROUGHT THE FAWNS HOME FROM ANOTHER FARM. tHEY ARE 3 WEEKS OLD, i BELIEVE THEY HAVE SOMETYPE OF BACTERIAL VIRUS AND DEHYRATED IN THE FIELD. THE VET IS RUNNING BLOOD AND STOOL SAMPLES. THEY ARE TWIN BUCK

FAWNS , THEY HAVE HAD THEIR IV'S SO THEY ARE NOW WELL HYDRATED. WE CAN ONLY HOPE FOR THE BEST. IT IS ALWAYS VERY DISAPPOINTING TO LOSE FAWNS. THANKS TO ALL THAT REPLIED !!! HOPEFULLY WE WILL HAVE A MIRACLE TO REPORT.

I would try Bo-Se and Thiamine, I've had to do this in the past and got them back on their feet. Never really new what the problem was though...

Good Luck...

Up date we have one fawn that quit breathing twice his heart never stop I got him breathing by working his lungs and clear his air way, he got steady breathing with a IV going all night just hoping. The other was flat on his back , he would just move his eye on you . Could not move any of his legs he was flat out. Plus they both came down with a bad case of runs. Here the good news, this one is standing on his own and really alert he will lick on you and cure up like the way I like to see a fawn do . His runs stops, I have hopes for both but the one is trying so hard to stay alive . I am wore out I stay up with them all night. We kept notes on everthing we did , if this one make it are both that will make my day.My wife and I, really like the way you guy reponded to are post. There not out of the woods yet

steve & faye PS. it alway hit your best that my luck

Steve and Faye you should feel no guilt no matter what the outcome....you have done all you can do and more.....I hope you are rewarded for all of your hard work!!!! Hope they not only both make it but grow up to be monsters!!

Steve and Faye, I agree with Dennis. No matter what the outcome with these fawns, you both need to be recognized for your hard work and dedication. You are true Stewards of the Industry. Best of luck. Allen

Thank you very much , we lost the one last night at 2 in the morning I was there when he quit breeding . I just could not get his breath back. thank guys for all the info

I'm sorry about your loss, you are both in my prayers. It's so easy to get attached to our baby fawns. I love this time of year, but I also hate it. I go thru so many heartbreaks reading situations like the one you just had. I want ALL fawns to be healthy, happy, and safe - wild and non-wild. I have 2 does that I raised from a week old. LOVE them deerly! They are my LIFE! Good luck with the baby - keep us posted.
