sorry guys but i have two fawns with scours they both eat very good, they play around a little and seem very healthy except for scours. We have been giving them pumpkin in the zoologic for about four days and it does not seem to be getting any better. Tonight we gave them yogurt with the pumpkin and zoologic, we also added a little gator aid ant ideas Thanks Again Ed
what ratio are you mixing? How often are you feeding? Is your Zoologic new? Do you sanitize your bottles or just rinse them off? Do you have anything that will treat for E Coli?
we are mixing three parts water to one part zoologic, we are washing the bottles after each use in hot water. What should I give them as far as meds for e-coli or any other precaution this is the first time we had this problem the zoologic is new this year a month old. We are feeding them as they ask usually 10 to 15 oz three times a day the fawns are 3 weeks old
ELk, I have the same problem with womb sisters. One has scoured from day one and the other started two day ago. They are 15 days old today. I have sent fecal samples to OSU to check for anything viral. DR. Gourley told me that this is running across the country and will have to just run its course. They both eat, play and are loaded with energy. I'll keep you guys posted on any path results. Good luck to all

I have friends that have six fawns on the bottle and feeding zoologic. Two of the fawns have the same scour problems. They are twins and the only ones with the problem. They took a sample to vet for testing and assuming coccidiosis. The test came back negative. We suggested watering the formula and weakening the ratio. The fawns are showing signs of firming up after only one day. They have always have a good appetite and full of energy. Perhaps some fawns need a weaker formula.
If many people are complaining of the same problem with zoologic perhaps they have changed something in the formula this year. I would contact them and either request if they have changed anything or complain of the problem and see if they have received other complaints.

What you are doing sounds good. Actually it is what i will be shooting for in 2 weeks. I do put my bottles in the dish washer every few days and run them through a sanatizer cycle that will sometimes melt the bottles a little. (thinking it gets hot enough to take care of germs)
I give Bovine E. colizer + C at 8 hrs and have never had a problem( Now i will cuse i said it!). I do have some Deccox - M in powder form that i can mix in with the formula to take care of coccidiosis. ( Is there Blood in their stool?) Maybe some of the old timers will chime in to help with what to use for E. Coli.

WVdeerman Makes a good point! Year before last I had a doe that couldn't handle a full 3 to 1 ratio everyday. She would start getting soft so We would cut back for a few feedings and she would firm up. She is expecting any day now. I wonder if her fawns will have the same problem?
My does were checked for Ecoli and are neg. No parasites, nothing that can be found so far. Waiting on Okla. State to run viral check. They have been in single boxes with no contact with each other. I have changed their mixture to straight electrolites and still no change. So it is a waiting game now. When I fed at 10pm they were alittle better then earlier today.

When I fed the fawns this morning, I saw a ton of worms in the stool. Tiny white worms. What can I worm them with? I did not see any before this morning. Thanks for all the info!!!

Thank you!! I will go pick some wormer up. I wasn't sure what I could give them because they are so young. I am still giving the yogurt,pumpkin,gatoraide. And i also have disinfected the bottles and nipples. So i will keep my fingers crossed!!! Thanks for all of the help and responses!
I've seen worms in fawns as soon as they hit the ground! Vets will argue the point and I've had them tell me it wasn't possible and that I was crazy. That point is a given but it still doesn't change the fact that I have seen em. Called placental infusion and they come from the placenta of the doe usually that hasn't been wormed before fawning. They say it wasn't possible because worms have a 14-21 day incubation period. Made me mad that they called me out in front of 125 people and then I thought I have seen and put my hands on more fawns than the best vets in the industry. It made me feel good that I had seen things that they hadn't! We like to use panacure horse wormer for these little guys because it isn't as hot as your injectables. We use 1/2 cc in the bottle 3 days in a row once a day. Then come back 14 days later and hit them for another 3 days! There is probably something better out there but that's how this old timer does it. Ask your vet on dosage but he will probably tell you I'm full of it. Has worked for me for 8 years so I'm not fixin it! Just one old mans opinion! ZZ
We used the same thing on our lab pups when we where raising them. Worked good and took care of giradia too. Rick
I also use Zoologic and every year I have 2 or 3 fawns with the same problem. Testing has always turned up negative and instead of cutting the formula I add pumpkin. The extra fiber always does the trick. Good Luck.
As long as they are drinking why not! I call it fawn freindly drugs. Easy on the fawn and handler. 90% of the drugs we give thru the season will be given thru the bottle. ZZ

We are bottle feeding 2 fawns so far with Zoologic and one of them started getting the scours pretty bad so we gave her some pepto and started both of them on pumpkin within 24 hours she was better and now is doing just fine. Just want to say THANKS to all of the people who shared their info with us on how to take care of these kinds of problems

I've been fighting scours for three days. I don't like to bottle raise but had a small doe with a litter of fawns and she's rejected them. She had 4, one we had to pull, breached. I've never heard of this but she had the last one approx. 24 hours after she went into labor and it is alive. She looks like she’s in trouble still looking laboring. Not sure if I'm going to put her down and treat again. Eating, drinking but keeps trying to push something out. I’m guessing she may have a dead fawn or after birth hung.
