i am wanting to get into raising a small deer herd. i have a problem though. There is not any where around me that sales 8' fence. Does anybody have any fencing laying around that you woild sale for cheap or free? i need enough to fence about an acre. i have all my post i need just need the wire. please let me know if anyone can help. thank you!

You may have to drive to get your fence. I have picked up supplies from nearly 5 hours away. ..and some of the supplies I picked up from the fencing outfit (12' 4" treated poles) were from Canada.

A friend of mine was just in KY putting up deer fence, all the way from WI.

We just use 2 47" woven wire and 2 stains of barb at the top. The game warden said our fence was one of the tightest around that he has seen. Lowe's $121 for 330 feet. 1250 Feet barb $40

You want to make sure you have the class 3 Galvanized wire, it will resist rust and weather better then just plain wire will which for the most part is what Lowes sells. If it is not a class 3 galvanized you run the risk of the corrision happening and then replacement in just a few years or a weak spot where corrision is occuring. The barbed wire is a good deterant for preditors if that is an issue but smooth wire is easier to work with and if the deer hit it, it will not tear them up. That eatra wire at the top is really to make your fence 10' tall which is a requirement in some states that your fence be 10' tall. I believe in saving money like the next guy does which is why my prices are very competitive but at the same time I dont want to have to redo work that should last many many years. Stay-Tuff has a 10 year warrenty on their fence so please make sure the fence you are investing in to keep your great deer behind will take it and last. I have received many phone calls over the years complaining about the fence that was purchased and placed on farms only to realize that the investment for the fence is just as important as the investment in the deer. Not sure where most fence is produced but Stay-Tuff is made in the USA, much of the overseas fence is thinner (weaker) and is less galvanized.

It really is time for a new idea in fencing. More strength. Much longer life. Much less costly to install. A better idea. We call that "the Stay-Tuff Advantage." It's all because the unique Stay-Tuff manufacturing method offers several advantages over conventional hinge-joint products. It's just better for the modern rancher and farmer..

To begin with, the product is manufactured from 12 1/2 gauge, Hi-Tensile, class 3 galvanized wire, offering three times the life and nearly four times the strength over most conventional low tensile wire. Hi-Tensile wire won't stretch. It has less than 1% elongation, compared to 11% elongation for low tensile wire. When you combine this with a very deep crimp, the producer can put up the fence, tighten it, and the fence will remain tight. When stock pressure, snow load, and the occasional tree falls on the fence, it will give with the load, it will not stretch, and it will spring back to its original shape.

Stay-Tuff fence is manufactured using a solid vertical stay rather than the conventional hinge-joint between vertical and horizontal wires. This provides superior vertical strength, allowing the fence to literally stand by itself, and providing much greater resistance to stock pressure preventing penetration of the fence. And last, but certainly not least, Stay-Tuff is manufactured domestically in the USA

B-Rad, nice web page, you have some nice Fallow deer from the photos. I am hunting my first Fallow this fall and looking forward to it. Thanks for sharing the photos

Thanks. Just getting started in the Deer Business. The Fallow are much easier to work with so far and Take care of there own. They eat more grass and stay nice and fat all year. The White tail seem to stress out during the rut and winter time But start looking real good again in May. Love the deer can't wait to see what we have this year. Good luck on your hunt. Would love the see some picture during your hunt if you get any please email them to me. We have a hunt pen set up now but looking at blind hunting and tree stands with thick clover all over.

I have tried using the 8 foot fence. Its to heavy to move around even get in your truck and out. Sound like most of the guys on the forum have alot of money and alot of equipment and people to help them. Love the forum keep up the replies.
