Foam from mouth

Hello,

I have situation going on with a 4 year old Doe. A week ago we noticed the doe pacing along the pen with foam coming from the corners of her mouth. We thought she might be impacted but her checks don't look swollen. We gave her 3cc's of LA200 and it seemed to stop. Tonight we noticed that she had more foam around her mouth, laying down and didn't want to get up. When she did it was only for a few minutes, and then layed back down. She's one of our bottle fed girls and usually comes right up to us. Any idea what might be causing this? Thanks for all your help in advance.

If your pens have just greened up good it's probably bloat, give her baking soda, I have had this problem with my goats as well when I first turn them out to pasture in the spring. Since I have offered free choice baking soda, never had problems with my goats and didn't have any problems with my pet deer this yr. either. Here is an interesting link for bloat in goats, which have essentially the same digestive system as a deer. If the foam is excessive you will have to give her something to get rid of it. Watch her close too, they can go quickly with bloat.

Uncle Harley,

Thank you. The foam is not that bad right now. How do I get her to take the baking soda?

Most times they will take what they need if offered. With her being so gentle you might be able to mix it with water then pull it up into a 6cc syringe & try to drench her with it, slowly, don't squirt it all at once or she'll probably never let you do it again haha.
