Caney, Ok
Ok. Im wanting to plan a 'field trip" to see the different setups in Oklahoma. I'm not sure whose out there and where they're located at. I would be starting out at Caney, Ok, which is about an hour north of the texas border. Any ideas on a a particular direction to head and how I should go about arranging times with everyone?

Thanks Davina

Davina,

I'm Karla Jones, secretary for the Oklahoma Whitetail Deer Farmers Assoc. You've talked to my husband, Buck. We're having a meeting at our place, Honeysuckle Haven Whitetails, this Saturday, 4/30. Come meet a bunch of deer farmers. There are 3 close to us. You can make arrangements to see some farms and enjoy our deer talk. We'll have the meeting after lunch, but come anytime. In Duncan, from Eastland Grocery or Eastland Drive, go 2 miles east on Old Hwy. 7, turn north at Patterson-Uti Drilling and go ½ mile north. You’ll go thru 2 gates. Follow the road, and you’ll see the house. If coming from Velma, you can turn north onto Comanche Lake Road, straight to Patterson Drilling, and it dead-ends at our house. See ya then. Anybody else is welcome, too.

Buck’s cell (always attached): 580-470-5011, for more directions or questions.

Davina,

There are some deer farms that are fairly close to you both South & North. Heading a little south and west, Barker Boys Whitetails is located in Kingston, OK, Diamond T Whitetails is located at Madill, OK as well as Blackland Whitetails. Not too far North is also Double T Whitetails in Dustin, OK, Lake Whitetails & WCI Whitetails are in Muskogee, OK, Canadian River Whitetails in Ada, OK, Deer Creek Whitetails in Indianola, OK, Wildcat Springs Ranch in Stonewall, OK, Jay's Whitetails in Dustin, OK, Circle P Whitetails in Vian, OK, Mallory Whitetails in Watts, OK and DSK Ranch in Checotah, OK.

Anyway, these are several that are in your neighboring area and could probably be reached or visited during your "field trip". The state's association Whitetails of Oklahoma has a website that you can visit at www.whitetailsofoklahoma.com that has a member listing. The listing includes phone #'s & other info for these farms or most of them.

There will be a Whitetails of Oklahoma Spring Picnic held on May 7th at the OK Trophy Ranch in Allen, OK which also is not too far a drive. There is also info on this on the website. If you want to meet a group of deer farmers in 1 location, you are more than welcome to show up and visit with them & enjoy the days fun, events & camaraderie.

Hope this info helps you in your venture & directions to travel.

All Cervidae breeders from Oklahoma shold come to the picnic as there will be free straws of semen to members who have been in business less than 2 years. Some very good semen there. The picnic will not be that far. We also will have a spleen removal program, the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Skeet trailer for all to enjoy, free lunch and other fun activities.
