I would only draw the buck once between October 1 -14. After that they are wound way to tight by the rut. Late collections often are ruined with blood. I would have a DVM present and give him a full bag of ringers before reversal along with 2cc. Of Draxxin, 2cc. Banimine, and 2cc. of LongRange. An antibiotic is necessary because ecoli can be aspirated into the lungs. The ringers will drastically reduce the risk of myopathy and help him pass the sedation and reversal drugs from his system. Remember the person collecting the buck is going to get paid wether your buck is dead or alive. Do NOT collect the buck if he isn't calm when he is darted!!! Do Not be pressured by the tech collecting the buck to hurry!!!
I agree w Bell 100%, we did did all the above plus B Complex, A,D&E vitamins and any vaccines we planned to give. It was frigid when we drew my buck and we actually wrapped him in blankets to keep his body temp up. Cold air and cold ringers can drop their body temp. We've only knocked down a few but knock on wood most are up moving around and eating acting normal very quick after reversal. Urine can also ruin the semen. If it were me I'd take off feed and water about 18 hours ahead of time, should reduce chance of urine in semen and aspiration which is your number 1 fear. I'm not nearly as experienced as most of these guys but that's just what I would do. Also don't forget BAM will kill your deer if trying to draw semen. Does anyone know if MK can be used?
