Hello, hope everyone has been doing good.

My question is does anyone know what fruit and vegetables that are safe to give or actually Not to give deer? For instance I was told that bananas are o.k. But not the peelings. Is there a web site that I can go on to find these things out.

Thank you very much!

That's a question that I've been wondering about too. The one day after I fed the bottle fawns I was sitting in the pen watching them and eating a banana. One of the fawns came over and pulled a piece of peel off and ate it. I really didn't think anything of it at the time, but she is still alive.

When I pick ripe vegetables from our garden I'll wash them off and feed them a handful. I've fed them green beans, broccoli (which they didn't like), squash, potatoes, cucumbers, and carrots. I try not to give them large quantities because I don't know what could give them bloat.

They love watermelon, apples, really anything full of sugar that they dont normally get. Possibly one of the best things to give them is fresh green hardwood leaves. Plants with new green shoots are especially beneficial to the rumen. All i know is you dont want them to ingest any plant that has a glossy coat, like magnolia or buckthorn. Not sure if that translates to veggies and fruits or not. Great question, Ryan

deer usually wont eat whats not good for them, I wouldnt give fawns fruit cause it could cause scours, we start our fawns with greens like grape leaves, some clover, pig ears, dandelion, adult deer we give the same plus apples, grapes, old cereal, bread, hardwood branches, turnips, beets, acorns, chestnuts, pears, Im sure they will eat bananas and watermelon I never tried it cause we eat them with no left over! Lol,, Right now I give them rhodedendron branches and maple , apples branches, great for rumen!! good luck!!!!

I gave one of out real tame does part of an orange one day. She had juice running all over but she ate every bite and licked her lips for awhile afterwords trying to get every drop of juice she could get.

Lettuce is not good for them, it slims them up. Must be they cannot break it down.

We feed ..........Watermelon ,cucumbers, zucchini, pumpkins and All kinds of squash and apples for 8 years no problems to all adult deer and sparingly to our fawns late in the year

hey i have always gave my adult deer the banana and the peel and never had a problem.

I guess i havent ever noticed a fawn eat any because the adult does eat everying before fawns have a chance.
