Our fawn's bout a week old, and now he's starting to randomly run around hte house, bounce, grab forks&spoon's off plates, toss them to the floor, nose us, run. For his daily exercise(Walk around the area), you think getting a leash would be a good idea for him? I think so, but I also wanna make sure nothing bad can happen from it.

Alright, will do. I was asking cause he does hate to be without us, so we generally take him with us when we go somewhere around hte local area. However, with the energy now coming into play, we were wondering what to do about that.

Robert was a little harsh with his answer but he is correct!! This is a deer and as fun as it is having it in the house they do not belong there. they are happier outside where God intended them to be. Just because you put it outside does not mean it won't stay close to you.....if you spend lots of time with it it will remain tame.......putting it outside will make it happy and you happy in the long run!!

Well ddwhitetails, there's actually a problem with that... Our little guy is a bit odd. We've tried leaving him out there in the enclosure numerous times, however we have to bring him with us in the house, pretty much for his own safety. He'll start bleating after a few minutes of us not being out there, then bashing against the fence, trying to get back to the house.

Sounds like he is pretty attached to you....I would make a pen for him outside and start spending more and more time with him in the new pen...he will start to get used to it and actually like it better eventually........your not going to be able to keep spending all of yur time with this guy so you need to do something about it now or it will just get harder....good luck!! Wish you the best with your fawn!!

This has the makings of a future disaster. A buck this dependant on humans can only lead to a dangerous adult animal. Try to not spend so much time with him, even if you have to build a small pen with shade-cloth sides to prevent him from injury. I agree with mike, he needs a friend. Just remember when he grows up, he will have no fear of humans and will attempt to establish dominance then, even if it means injuring you or your friends or kids.

yes, Scott is right, please be careful with the bottlefed bucks, many of us, myself included can tell you from expierence how dangerous they can get. Especially When the velvet comes off after their first rack, you can never trust them. As far as the leash idea, there are many things that can go wrong like the others have said. All it takes is something like a plastic bag blowing across the lawn to startle him, and you deer could completely flip out and hurt you and himself. Sound like you do have a sweet little deer though, Good luck with him and have fun.

couldnt agree with the rest of you guys bottle fed buck means no good we had a bottlefed buck who wouldve killed my dad had we not cut his antlers off he put him to the ground and kept ramming him with his head still bruised him bad if your dear as an antlered buck gets out he could very well kill you or someone else i know the one we had wouldeve if he had horns good luck keep a can a mace with you as you might need it with him

I see, well, de-antlering WILL be a must for him. Also, will this aggression be at least somewhat fixed by castration? We do not have intention to breed him.

I have a question. Are you all talking about these bucks being kept and not turned out to the wild.. but farmed.? I have a bottle fed buck that I recently turned out on the 70 acres and he is doing well. I am still weaning him but he come to the house once or twice a day it depends. Is this the same kinda danger that u are all talking about? No kids or myself 'play' with him exactly, we just feed him and through some grain/corn out and then go back inside...

You have to remember, He will leave someday and he will travel looking for a girl friend when his... stecker picks up.. He will not just run into your family..He may run into a person anywhere in his rounds. If you are that worried and you figure he wont leave then band him and be done with it. It will be a safe move for sure, For everyone!

that same cute lil buck fawn that nuzzles yer hand now will kill you four years from now if he gets the chance. Bottle fed, tame, bucks are the most dangerous animal I know of. Even without antlers(sawed off) he will hurt you. I got knocked to the ground by a five year old w/o antlers and beat up pretty bad. I thought he broke my left leg(thigh) and walked with a limp for a week. With antlers he would of severely injured me.
