Hello everyone, I am new here and have been tossing the idea of deer farming around for some time now. I have tons of questions and would love to pick some of you guru's brains for a bit:D Please pm me!

TLloyd, great name...... just search these forums, try plans, designs or layout for fences , this will give you a start, if you tell everyone where your from some local people from your area will reply and the best way to get answers is to visit 6-10 farms and see how they run things and the best advice I can give you is not to buy any deer until your fence is built and by then you will have decided what kind of farm you want....hobby, small or the mother of all farms...... wild non-typicals , really clean deer or somewhere in between
 
Thank you, I will look up a few things here. I am located in MS and would really like to visit as many farms as possible.
 
TLloyd - do all the research first & visit, visit, visit as many places as you can. We have only been in the business since April 2009 & we visited & met lots of wonderful people in this business. We however, did it a little backwards - my husband ex-partner bought a doe at a auction with us having no intent of doing this business. Needless to say we had lots of people help us out with visiting their farms & we are up to 9 deer now. This is a very fun & expensive business but when you see your first set of fawns being born there is nothing like it.
 
I'm not aware of any "master" list of deer farms. However NADeFA has a list of it members' websites at http://www.nadefa.com/farmwebs/ndf_farmwebs_list.php



You could contact the various state deer associations. We have a list of them in our Links section of Deerfarmer.com



Finally, we have quite a collection of useful articles on deer farming in the Deerfarmer.com Library. I would start with the the many articles to give you a background with which to ask more questions.
