Grain/pellet recommendations for fawns

Any recommendations for a good grain for fawns? Preferably something I can purchase at. Tractor Supply. I believe she's coming up on 3 weeks old. I have Calf Manna pellets for her but she's not having anything to do with them. I have made water and fresh dirt available to her at all times. She's not really interested in the dirt anymore. Should i be giving her something in addition for her rumen health? When i take her out in the evenings she munches on clover and raspberry leaves. Not really into grass. Is this ok for her age? I will be transferring her to an outdoor pen this weekend. What do i need to make available to her in her pen? Straw vs hay? Thanks in advance!

All of this is written on the checklist that Dr. Shipley wrote. He is a highly-respected deer AI specialist here in the Midwest. Your questions have been answered here before- please search the boards. If she is munching on clover and other leaves from plants- that's great forage and you should allow her to do this everyday.

The impt thing with the pen is that it is built with at least 6-8 ft stockade fencing to protect the fawn from predators. She will sleep on straw, but hay and a blankie is a lot softer. Good quality, soft, hay is what you should give her, but she will not be eating any of it hardly at all at this age, and during this time of year. Fresh leaves are good to give- they are really good for rumen health. Just do not give her cherry or oak leaves which can apparently be toxic in excess.

That's what I have for her but she has zero interest in them. I've even tried putting them in her mouth with some bits of banana and she spits the pellets out...

Yeah... I know... Dr. Shipley recommends Calf Manna, and I tried and tried, but Rosa wasn't havin' any of it... for weeks. She would eat a bit of sweet feed (for horses), but really didn't eat much grain at all as long as I was giving her all of the fruits and veggies and leaves and milk milk milk she wanted.

Pumpkin (fresh or boiled, or that stuff in a can) is soooo healthy for them too.

They take to calf manna much easier if you sprinkle a little powdered formula or non-fat dry milk over the top.

Tried that last night! I hand fed her some and she seemed more interested. I will keep trying everyday. Thanks!

not sure where you are located at but if you can find an ADM feed dealer near you they make a pellet just for fawns. it is a lot smaller than a normal pellet so i think they take to it a lot better.
