Hair loss

I have been battling hair loss on various animals in different pens for some time now. Its back again.

We feed a complete (pelletized) ADM feed.

Alphalfa hay

We treat 4 times per year with a rotating wormer schedule, as well as bring them through the chute twice per year for other preventative treatments..



I have read past post suggesting other deer eating the hair, as well as lacking minerals.



A few months back I started putting a tiny amount of copper sulphate in there water supply once a week. This actual worked almost immediately to smooth and thicken there coats. But now Im noticing hair loss and blackening hide.



Any thoughts.

I personal think there not getting a mineral they need. Although our feed is suppose to have ample mineral for all there needs, I think its based on an average.

Just like in the wild, deer can go months and never touch a mineral block, then suddenly lick it into the ground. I could be wrong but my thought is weather/ ground condition/ time of year, impact there need for different minerals.



I'd like to know if any one out there that keeps free range mineral in there pens has ever experienced this type of hair loss? My guess is that if they have a sutable mineral at free choice the hair loss will go away.
