Handling Facility

I am designing my handling facility which is a 24x32 pole barn. I am a small farm with only 4 does so far. Three will be fawning this spring God willing. My question is approx. half of the barn is cement and the other half is a small gravel (1/2 to 0). I plan to have fawns come in and out of the one end which is below grade and gravel. Should I cement this half or finish it off with ag slag of some sort? Thanks for your opinions.

My is not concrete or gravel but if I had the money I would concrete for ease of cleaning. Lot easier to sanitise concrete than gravel. I see you aren't too far from me. I am right over the PA line right around hookstown. If your ever out this way stop by.

Norm,

Not sure how far north of me you are, I just built a handling facility last year after visiting 3-4 different farms. You are welcome to come visit or call if you wish. My number is 412-526-7885. I am located about an hour and a half south of Steubenville. My barn is close to the size you currently have. If I can be of any help, feel free to call or come visit.

Norm, We have concrete in the end of our handiling facility that has our chute and tunnel system in it. We have gravel in the box stalls. Cement would be nice but gravel is alot less expensive and easily replaced.

also deer have way less power on concrete. If you ever have to man handle them. they can't get much traction.

I like ag lime for a floor where animal's will be walking on so they dont slip and get hurt, concrete if handeling animal's that are out and will be on a table for ai or other work. Ag lime pack's in real good and will make a solid floor. But I guess concrete with a broomed finish would work fine as well.
