I just brought home my first fawns.I have 3 doe fawns and 1 buck fawn in one pen and 2 buck fawns in another.I would like the buck fawn to breed the does before i put them all together for winter.can anyone let me know about how many times the fawns will cycle and would they cycle as late as january?thanks for any help!

Oh yes they can cycle in jan. if they big enough. not only does the doe fawn need to be big . but fawn buck. some dont know right end:eek: if they big enough the should start soon. seems mine was in Jan she bred to a sterile Buck bred jan 17 i saw lot breeding last yr none was past jan. all stoped after 3or 4 times .bout wore sterile buck plum out but he was smiling.sorry one in feb older doe. fawn only cycled once jan 17 No baby!Dc

January, February, March...or not at all. Have to try to keep an eye on them. Our first year we had a fawn born in September so that would make it end of Feb. That was only time ...last 2 years no fawns from doe fawns.

My opinion is that it is also sexual maturity. Last summer, 3 of my 5 bottle fawns had fawns. The 2 that didn't have fawns were my biggest body ones. The littlest one was the first one to have a fawn and she had him the 2nd week of June. The 2nd one was the last part of June and the last one was August 10th.

We aren't breeding our doe fawns anymore because we don't think it's worth the risk of losing our does. 2 out of the 3 had major problems....tore themselves up in the back end. They took weeks to get back to normal and we had to give them antibiotics for infection. I had to pull one fawn out and they both disowned them because of the pain that it caused them. The other one probably would have taken care of hers, but we took her because she was late born and I wanted her tame since she was out of our Allstar daughter.

I compare it to a young teenager having a baby....most just aren't ready to take on the responsibility and their bodies can't handle it either. My opinions are from our experience.

I remove all my buck from the does the second week of January. Bottle feeding in August and September really sucks! Your herd will grow fast enough.
