I've used MDI and GMS. GMS seems to be easier.

I use GMS and like it. I know I don't use it to the full extent of its capability, I really just use it to keep track of medication that I have used and for pedigrees. I think the pedigree charts are awesome. Its a pain in the nuts until you get all of the deer pedigree entered, but after you have them in and start adding / breeding new deer its cake!. just a couple clicks ... and BOOM there you have the new linage chart, right down to all the notes you have entered for the different sires / dams.

I used The Rancher for 6 years and have been using GMS for only 2+. It’s just like starting any new program…a first it takes some getting used to until you learn all the “tricks”. At least with GMS your sire doesn’t keep disappearing-lol & it’s great to have fuller pedigrees with pics. My main gripe for GMS is it doesn’t have the safety feature The Rancher does for when you accidently make changes and it would prompt you to ask if you want to save those changes. With GMS when you mis-type the original info is gone! I keep a hard copy on hand to refer to and have created a bogus deer to show up first in both the active & archive list. What I really like about GMS is they are available whether it’s over the phone or at their booth during deer events and they are continuously updating & adding new features with customer input. You get most of the same features with GMS only organized a bit differently. The additional features they offer you could never have with The Rancher since they don’t update anymore.

We use GMS at Apple Creek Whitetails. Our biggest concern is that this program is not networked so only 1 person can be working on the program at one time. It would be great if I could enter information in the office while the guys were out doing herd checks and entering data at the same time.

Our other concern is that we lost some information numerous times and customer service was not able to identify the problem. We had a few deer just randomly disappear a few times which is very frustrating!
