does anyone know what to use to get rid of horse flies. they are everywhere in my pen, also some of my deer are losing their hair. my buck has lost most of his hair from his butt to his shoulders and down his sides, all help appreciated

I got one of those Epps biting fly traps this year. The horse fly is definitely one of the flies it catches. The trap is full of them. I got mine from Horse.com after checking other places for the best price on it and it cost me about $275 all told with shipping to get it here, but it is working great for the horse flies and the face flies. We built aq portable stand for it out of square tubing so we could easily move it around instead of using the 7' t-posts they suggest. Your only future investment with that trap is dish soap. And I hear from other people you'll need new plastic sheets for it every few years. There is one other small fly (I forget its name right now) that it does not seem to be catching. I also have many other traps and fly control methods and each seems to work on some of the flies but not all of them. Pretty soon I'll have every kind known to man here. The fly population has been dramatically reduced here though. I also add the garlic to my feed like the previous reply.

We found that the granulated garlic works better than the powder. We get it in 7# jugs from Sam"s club here in IL. If you can get your feed mill to mix it in with your feed when they mix it you'll find that they will eat it better than if you try adding it yourself. If you try doing it yourself you will have to add some oil or something onto the feed to get the garlic to stick to it. Rick
