How important are GOOD Pictures

We all know that it is important to take good pictures when we are promoting a deer and trying to sell semen. Does it go further than that? What about the next year and the year after that if they are still alive? Do we owe it to the people who buy semen and get offspring to make pictures readily available for their records? I say yes.

It is my opinion that if one straw of semen is ever sold out of a deer that the owner of that deer owes it to their past customers to keep them informed on how the buck is doing via current or at least yearly pictures that are easy to access. Im not saying that everyone has to put up pictures all summer of their bucks, but they should at the very least get a good finished out picture of their buck out on the internet for any past customers and/or future customers to see.

What does everyone else think?

I think at least one new picture a year when finished out.

And not the same old one from last year.

Todd, I agree comepletely! :p

I try to keep folders on my computer for each year and each buck for both pictures and video. Hopefully before too long we will have pictures of them all. Then all we need is an e-mail asking for any certain buck. If I have them I'll gladly send them.

We also plan on posting all our bucks on Whitetail Quest. What a tool that is turning out to be!!! I encourage everyone to take advantage of this great tool. And with dabuck channel and its new HD capabilities (even better than utube) thats a great combination for everyone to use.

With it, anybody can look up the bucks for pictures, pedigrees, DNA numbers, scores, and of course HD video for each year. We are dedicated to getting our deer on there and should have them all on by the end of the Summer.

If you bought any semen in the past, THANK YOU, and feel free to e-mail me anytime for pictures. If I have them I'll e-mail them to you!

We wish everyone luck with all thier deer!! :D

My personal idea on the sharing of pictures and other information dealing with any animals I have sold or semen I have sold from my own bucks goes like this.

I feel buyers need to keep good records for themselves and for their own future sales. All our investors will get any updates I feel are important through email, snail mail, or in person each year. For example if someone has purchased a doe from me I will share with the buyer any info I have pertaining to the doe. Say they buy a doe and she has a son on the ground at my farm. I will make a point of letting the buyer know how that son turns out. Good or bad. Same thing if the doe they purchased had a womb brother at my farm.

Say I sell semen out of a buck. I will again provide a picture and any other info I can each year to the investors so long as I own the buck. Of course once I sell the buck my own ability to obtain pictures and info may be limited to the new owners willingness or ability to provide me with the info.

All this is of course easy for me to do because we have a small farm focused on high quality and we don't sell large numbers of animals and semen each year. If we were larger this might not be such an easy task. And if we had more bucks I might not have pictures of all the bucks on my farm either. In fact this past winter I tried to find a decent picture of a particular buck on my farm to share with someone. (a backup sire to a doe fawn we had sold once) Even though we are so small in numbers I failed to take a good picture of a couple of our bucks and he was one of them.

Now all of this said I also feel it would be nice if the buyers would return the favor and contact me directly with info about the products they purchased. Such as if they purchased semen let me know how many does they bred and what they got for fawns. If they purchased a doe what has she produced for them. I also have records I would like to keep on my end.

It is my desire as in the case of our big buck Updraft to keep records of all his offspring both buck and doe. I feel with such a stacked and powerful pedigree his production on both his sons and daughters will be outstanding and I want to document it.

I feel the same way about the does we sell. This year we will be digging deep into our breeding program and picking out some amazing animals and offering them for sale. I suspect their production for their new owners will be outstanding as well and I would like to keep informed as it goes.

However I don't think this or any other website should be used as the way to exchange that information. There are many growers who don't use or read this or any other site. And even those who do use it don't see every post ever made.

It is my desire to contact all our investors directly each year with any new information available and I hope that all my buyers will contact me directly by email, snail mail, or phone to address any possible questions or concerns they may have about the products purchased from me. It is truly my desire that EVERYONE be happy with the products and services they get from Independence Ranch.

Thank you all,

Roger

Thank you all,

Roger,

Just wanted to share your results of posting and updating Updraft on whitetail Quest and The Buck Channel.

Less than 6 months Updraft pedigree on Quest received 472 views by deer farmers.

Updraft video on the Buck Channel received 363 views by deer farmers.

Other deer farmers who posted 1400 bucks received 415,000 views.

For the deer farmers who do not use computers we publish all the Quest bucks in Whitetail Guide and sold to deer farmers all over the nation.

As you know Roger this is a free service and We will continue to work hard to make this a valuable tool for you and your customers. Even those of us who may buy Updraft crossed with PJ,Tyhoon or another deer outside your pen.

With respect,

Scott

Roger as of this week you will now be able to watch Updraft/Typhoon and all bucks on The Buck Channel on your I-phone. Richard self learned the program and and developed smart phone apps for Whitetail Exchange, Whitetail Quest and The buck Channel.

To all Show your Pedigrees promote your farm and let your bucks be seen.

I, for one love the websites of bucks growing and pedigrees you can look up. It is very hard for me to travel all over the nation on farm tours, and I hate waiting on emails to be returned. I see both sides though. But for me, the GOOD pictures and Apple Creeks FREE service is great.

Right now, my laptop is blocking the pop-up for attachments on these forums. I had pics ready last week, but cant attach now.???? Any advice?

Scott,

It would appear your misunderstanding my post and what I said. Never did I say that this or any other website (including yours) was bad, a poor way of promoting, or any such thing. Why are you taking what I said wrong???

I said that as a seller OR a buyer I think we should directly communicate our information whether it is pictures, scores, or production records of any other sort directly to each other to provide the best service and the most effective communication without room for error.

I feel it is better customer service to directly communicate with our investors rather than just assuming that they will see a picture or any other information if I randomly post it on here or any other websites.

If you buy a straw of semen from a buck I own and the following year you want to know how he grew out you shouldn't have to go searching the web looking for his picture, his score, or any other info. You should be able to get updates directly from me the grower without pulling teeth to do it. That is the gist of what I said.

You have a great set of websites for promoting and selling. I have never said they weren't good tools.

But I don't think by me putting a picture of Updraft on your site alone I have provided the best service to my customers because they may not all see your site. That is why I provide direct communication with my customers. I either provide a file picture in an email or a paper picture in person or the snail mail. Is there something wrong with my wanting to provide good service? Customer service is something I feel this country has lost.

The website itself will not block pop-ups. This is a control somewhere on your laptop. It can be turned on or off at many different levels and depending on which Windows version you run and what version of Explorer you use to view the websites.

Usually, you can go to Start, Control Panel, then Security. Check there first if pop-ups are blocked.

Next step would be to select Tools from the top browser menu (Windows Explorer), then select Internet Options. In this screen you will see many tabs. In these tabs there are settings for pop-ups as well.

Last thing to check is your anti-virus software. Sometimes they block as well. This also goes for uploading photos etc.

Hope this helps you out.

Richard

Rodger,

I totally agree that good old fashion customer service is still needed and has become lost in the world of instant information, but that does not mean we should ignore the tools at our disposal.

I was just trying to point out that having good photos, records, and information at your finger tips is so valueable in this day and age. I get a little excited sometimes because two years ago, websites like whitetail exchange, whitetail quest and the buck channel didn't exist. We relied on the sharing of information between farmers and in many cases, the follow through never happend.

Now through these types of information web sites, we can track offspring growth, see how they turned out, and make better choices for our breeding operations. I view these sites as resource and information along with promotion.

Again, I get really pumped up when I can help someone out, and just wanted to point out the value that our sites can bring to the table, and I thought the number of views was pretty good in your case. I truely hope you got some new farmers interested in your deer.

God Bless

Scott
