HSUS Strikes Florida

New York and Louisiana have temporary bans but are considering further measures. Like I have already posted I fear the Florida issue will start a domino effect

This is getting way out of control and absolutely ridicules. We as a business had better do something on a National level because we cannot sustain an attack state by state, there is just not enough money to do so. We need to educate the hunters on just what CWD is and how it is transmitted because the government is doing their job at spreading crap all over the country that we all know is just not right. We test more then any other animal business in this country and we are made to fell like we are the cause of the CWD when we all know better. It is time for us to strike out NATIONALLY!!!!!

Missouri is working on it now. Its one of the Questions they are asking the public. "Do you support changes to the Wildlife Code of Missouri to restrict movement of live deer into Missouri to protect the health of Missouri's deer" Hey, if you think about it how would they restict it any more than it already is.

They are planning a total shut down in October. The part that i dont understand say like Florida...They say they dont want CWD yet they allow a huge flush of deer to come into their state weeks before the shut down...From CWD Positive States!!! Tell me money and power is not involved?

I hate to say it but Ny at least shut down any deer movement from any CWD states to try and keep it out. As stupid as it sounds at least they did it right.

Jerry the way they worded it, how many hunters would not support this? Just the wording of this, makes it a half-truth.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Votes to Protect Deer from Deadly Disease

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission voted unanimously to ban the import of live deer, elk and other cervids to prevent the spread of chronic wasting disease. Deer and other cervids are imported into the state to stock breeding ranches and captive hunting ranches.

Kate MacFall, Florida state director for The Humane Society of the United States. said: “We are extremely thankful that the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission voted to approve this ban. Prohibiting the importation of cervids into the state is an essential step toward preventing the spread of Chronic Wasting Disease into Florida. The health of our native wildlife is far too important to risk just so someone can bring in an out-of-state deer to be shot behind a fence.”

Facts:

Chronic wasting disease has now been found in 22 states. In 13 of the states the disease has been found in captive populations. CWD is an incurable, fatal prion disease similar to mad cow disease. There is no vaccine, and there is no live test for CWD.

Chronic Wasting Disease can cost taxpayers millions of dollars in response efforts – the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources alone has spent over $40 million since 2002 fighting the disease.

Captive cervids are imported into Florida for captive hunting, where the animals are stocked inside escape-proof fenced enclosures, allowing ranches to often offer guaranteed trophies, “100 percent success” rates, and advertise "no kill, no pay" policies.

Captive hunts are generally reviled by the hunting community nationwide for violating the principle of fair chase. Hunting groups such as the Boone and Crockett Club and the Pope and Young Club, which maintain trophy records for big game hunting, will not consider animals shot at captive hunts for inclusion on their record lists.

At more than 1,000 commercial captive hunt operations in the United States, trophy hunters pay to shoot native and exotic mammals — from zebra to endangered scimitar-horned Oryx — confined in fenced enclosures.

Many of the animals on these ranches have become accustomed to humans, making them easy targets for shooters.

You can thank some in the Florida Deer Association for getting into bed with these folks. As promised they are already coming after the hunting ranches as can be seen by the above article from HSUS

What's also sickening is that the NRA jumped in bed with them too. I thought they only got into 2nd amendment stuff.

Deer Breeders of Florida are either

1. Dumb enough to think they will not be totally shut down its the fox guarding

the hen house

2. Bought out by the HSUS

You be the judge

I will be calling Courtney Roberts to cancel our ad ASAP with a piece of my mind.

That is exactly the point, these three questions are pointed in one direction.

This is Jerrilee Cave from Clearview Whitetails in Indiana. I want my subscription canceled immediately and my farm REMOVED from your site.

I will not support anyone in this industry that is not for this industry as a whole. Support of closing the Florida borders by a Deer farmer is a flat out crime and is done by people that only out for themselves. As an American little by little we lose rights that our forefathers fought for us to have. And for us to lose them at the hands of our fellow Deer Breeders is just unbelievable.

SENT!!!

I think if those who did this in Florida were mentioned by name then we all could have the option to do or not to do business with them. Maybe a good hard pinch from the industry might help change their minds or their wallets.

We have enough problems fighting those that want us out of business without fighting our own industry. It was very discouraging for Shawn Schaffer, Laurie Seale, Cliff Shipley, and I to travel to Florida, to help our industry and to help some Florida breeders who want free trade, to have to listen to the representatives from NRA and HSUS spread their lies and half truths. It was even worse to have deer breeders such as Irving Roberts, Donnie Young, and FDA Vice President Phillip Bryant stand up and support the position of HSUS and NRA for closure of the borders with the pretense of protecting the wild whitetail populations and at the same time knowing these breeders and others have brought hundreds of deer into Florida to develop their own herds. The FDA lobbyist even testified that NADEFA should stay out of Florida. Others who testified for closed borders also said that all out of state breeders testifying should stay out of the state of Florida and that it was obvious only those out of state breeders testifying for open borders were from endemic states who only wanted to sell their deer.

After the vote was taken and the border closure was passed unanimously there was a round of applause from the FDA members who were present in the audience. How disheartening was this for those of us who traveled long

distances and attempted to help this industry?

Henry, if you look at the above post I think you will get some names of those that were pushing for the borders to close.....I would definitely put them on your "do not do business" list!

True Dat but being those names are now in a members only spot they may not be seen by as many people. Im not sure these conversations should be locked away. In a way it may be better for some of our foes to know that this pushing crap is coming to an end and that there are now and will be more lawyers hired and lawsuits filed! Kind of a two edged sword there i guess!

Yeah I hear ya Mike....I was thinking the same thing.......but what's it matter......hopefully the lawsuits will start and this Industry can get the justice it deserves......we have been pushed around long enough.........enough is enough! I was just showing Henry the names since he asked......if someone wants to post the names of the losers on the open forum be my guest
