Here is another one to add to the list. Now we are threatening other livestock and the nations food supply. We are also raising tigers and setting them free in neighborhoods. What a joke. I understand people oppose high fenced hunting. Deer were meant to be wild, like cattle and pigs and chickens. Oh wait, because these animals are not considered majestic, we can kill them. So tired of the bs and people using CWD as an excuse to ban together. If you don't like high fenced hunting, that is fine, don't do it. But when it comes down to it, hunting is hunting. Your way is not better/worse than someone else's, it is just different. Don't fish in a lake or pond either...........I feel a little better. Thanks for letting me vent.

Here we are playing defense to a well planned and coordinated attack on our industry. Hopefully moving forward, NADEFA will look at investment of some serious capital regarding promotional items similar to these write-ups, in a positive light of course.

Somebody should be doing something soon to counter this crap. Every day something negitive is thrown out to the public and everyday more people believe it. I got a call today from someone that knew i had deer and read all the bull in the paper. She had to ask me if this was true! she could not believe it could be with me having deer but she still called to talk.

If this happens to me from someone that already knew me just think what all the people that are clueless and on the fence about it either way.  Will not be good if some kind of rebuttal  from our industry does not happen.         IMHO Of Course.

ha I have been on a couple of forums

hunting forums are just as bad as the anti forums.

They are so clueless, all HUNTERS should be together.

They are the only TRUE hunters blah blah blah.

Just because Joe blow raises caged tigers does not mean I am going to attack what he does. I dont agree with people that tattoo their bodies up but I'm not going to go on a crusade against them.

Why can't people just mind their own business????

And for all this to come from a hunter, he makes it sound as if all wild deer will now be diseased, boy thats good for the hunters of the wild!

What makes whitetail different that any other species???? they don't seem to attack the elk or exotic hunts

There really has never been a rebuttal from our Industry.........................Since CWD got on folks radar 12 years ago ?

I was told the ACA laywers are looking into this and NADEFA

sent out an email today saying that Shawn talked to Ryan Sabalow about retracting some statements. Okay i'll take it back after its already in print.  Really??????

Well let me tell you, when I messaged him and his producer(immediately after viewing the previews) and told him to not portray my bottle babies as the ones that will get shot, they sent me an email back and said they will correct it before the full story comes out, you see how they didn't keep their word!

I know from a horses mouth that immediately after the TOP 30 (in January!!!!!!!) Sabalow told this person that he would NOT like the report as a deer farmer.   Sabalow told everyone else it would not be biased.       WTF??????       Why didn't he tell someone????    why were we not ready for intervention or a rebuttal??????  I wanted to scream at him when he told me this.  We are our own worst enemy.  Just another case of Indiana burying its head in the sand.

A reporter will do whatever sells papers. We have learned over the years to not trust any of them. It is like we posted before, we are doing this on private land with privately owned animals. What we do affects the public hunt ZERO! So why do they even care what we are doing????? All those "true" hunters out there can continue to do whatever they do. This country was formed based on freedom and pursuit of happiness, well maybe for some folks that is high fence hunting -- so what??? I truly believe we are winning the battle because there are more and more people who hunt our places each year. When we do outdoor shows there are fewer and fewer people who turn up their noses at our operations. We can definitely see a change from say ten years ago. It is definitely much more accepted.

It is hard to do anything about the articles. By responding you just draw more attention to them. The best thing any of us can do is continue to make sure we leave a good impression with those people we deal with on a day to day basis and each do our part to educate others.

In my opinion................Stories like this will never stop! Atleast not as long as they know that we will do nothing and say nothing!

We will continue to be lied about and bullied by pricks like this kicking sand in our face and spreading lies!

It didn't take long for stories like Oprah had on about "Mad Cow Disease" to stop as soon as......................The Cattlemans Association stepped on her throat............Now did it?

While this Country is focused on Stopping Bullying......................We should try and get some attention to our circumstance..............We certainly could show a LONG history of it ?? :(

So true!!  I also believe we are getting stronger and grous like QDMA and B&C know and see this. They are fighting for their skin and will do whatever it takes to win.  I will also say that the states like ours that are under a lawsuit and want deer farming out of the state will do anything it takes.

I believe even as far as fudging CWD tests... We all need to play it safe and make sure you get 3 samples when the state does any CWD tests on your farm.

1 goes to you,1 goes to your vet and the other goes with the state guy.  I know i do and trust me, when you tell the state guy you want extra samples, you will get a look. You only need a little piece and you can order those little cups Doctors use for urine drug tests.  I make him put the tag numbers and the date on all 3 vials and i make him sign the vials!!  Cant be to safe at this point.

These groups ALL know this industry is being more and more accepted. More and more private landowners are thinking "why in the hell would I let some over educated under experienced DNR "biologist" manage the deer on my property"? I can buy my own better genetics and mange the deer the way I WANT, WHEN I WANT. Private landowners have watched these groups push for socialized hunting while NOT supporting the landowners for the work and cost they cover by providing habitat for "their" deer. I am one of the luckiest people in the world to have a large population of wild deer that seldom ever leave my farm (1,000 plus most years). I provide habitat because I love whitetails. I can remember when I didn't manage for them (20 years ago) and would be lucky to have 20 deer on the whole farm. We can only get very few resident only buck tags and non-residents can't even have any chance of drawing a buck tag. With no way of raising some revenue for the damage they do, why would I want that many around? I'd rather fence "theirs" OUT and let the others around me deal with the deer damage. The way these farmers will do it is by calling in the Game Fish & Parks, they will have to come out at night and shoot em off bait pyles in the name a depradation control, they also won't open their land to the public.  Landowners in this day and age who want to manage for quality deer aren't going to open up their land for a public free for all, PERIOD. Most of these Wildlife Federation QDMA whiners who ***** about not having anyplace to hunt have done this to themselves. They show up opening day with 5 people when they have permission for one, shoot the only deer the landowners told them NOT to shoot, leave gates open, drive in fields when it's muddy rutting them up and a hundred other things. Most of these a$$holes won't even say hello to ya unless it's getting close to deer season and then they try to be your best friend. Amazing. These groups are watching their numbers and quality decline and the commercial operations getting better quality and numbers because we manage for it. These groups HATE ANY KIND OF COMMERCIAL HUNTING, HIGH FENCE OR LOW FENCE. People will always whine about not having something as good as others, that's their choice. If being a landowner is sooo easy, just go to the bank and borrow a couple million for a few hundred acres. It's simple. Then when they get so worried about the rest of the people who don't have any place to hunt, open it to the public. Somewhere in that mix they will have to figure out how to make the land payment and the free loaders sure won't help.  Times are changing, South Dakota pheasant preserve license sales were up 25% this year for non-residents and the regular license for public land was down 25%. People who can afford it want to hunt where the birds and deer are and these people hate it.

You are right South Dakota!!! In Texas there is very little public land and they have to work with landowners to improve deer habitat etc. in states like ours where there is public land, everyone feels hunting should be free. That is fine and we have no problem with those that want to hunt public land. BUT don't complain about operations like ours, or the private landowner that won't let you on. Owning property is a big expense and unless they are paying all of my bills, we should have the right to manage it the way we want. I believe as the high fence hunting becomes more accepted, these groups will increase their attacks.

<supI see a lot of bitching here looking for others like nadeafa and the aca to step in. I was always taught to take care of myself so lets get it started what are our options, where do we go from here? My senator said we need a rebutal I agree. head in the sand hasn't worked it's time to take the bull by the horn. Gary you say our industy is getting stronger this is true but the general public does the voting too they are the ones getting educated with false statements right now. I wish I was a writer I've got the thoughts but no way of making them look good on paper.</sup

Negative articles will always be written, always because like someone said, it sells papers. I believe we just need to put out facts of our own, not going after anyone in particular but take out ads, articles and so forth to give the truths. Truths will place in most people that issue of doubt, who is and who is not telling the truth, who do we trust, it will also make most seek answers and question for themselves, might be interesting. I am talking from personal experience as most of us can when we get approached from low information people who just read an article from someone they considered at the top of their game so to speak.

Yes, the ACA's attorneys are looking into this with the ACA's Media Review Committee.  The council will get their recommendations soon.

These various articles advocate for shutting down state borders, however, as noted, our attorneys think we would have a good argument via the Commerce Clause.

CWD is used as ammo in all these articles by folks that dont even know the facts or science. Yet, at the same time cervid folks may say the ACA was too obsessed with the USDA Federal CWD Standards process, but if we cant get our OWN AGRICULTURE federal health agency to stop treating us like the plague what chance do we have convincing general public folks that believe anything they read?

Its time to start drawing some hard lines, yall. While we can.

This article is the status quot in Indiana because there has never been any resistance.  They (opposition) have the platform and the means while the industry "allows" it to happen, Shame on us.  Everybody says they will look into it but very very few of us will actually do anything about it.

It is very discouraging if you look at the bombardment of negative press on websites and facebook pages that are constantly updated then look at NADEFA.  To me it seems a very passive organization.  All of us are members and receive email updates etc, but it would be a lot more encouraging if they were pressing the positive sides of deer farming as hard as these other organizations push the false press.  I'm not sure what it would take them to hire a youngster to constantly update their website and facebook and any other media on a regular basis but it may be worth it.  Heck just hire someone to work full time posting the facts on their facebook and websites.  NADEFA is about all we have so I support them I just wish they were more visible and getting out to the rest of the world.

I would have to agree.  How about NADEFA or the ACA call out groups like the QDMA... They use CWD to fight us because thats the only ammo they have to beat us.  Yet they still gp against science and the spreading of CWD by telling all their members that its best to let a buck grow to mature!

Well read the science...If they were for the deer and the health of the herd they should be saying to shoot every male deer you see in CWD positive states!

Remember science shows CWD in mature males more than any other deer with yearling males next.  Same with the B&C Club.  If you look at 4 of the top 5 states in the book they are CWD positive states. Should not be to many mature bucks in those states to make the book.   If they practice what they preach.

Im sure people are looking at this but every day something new is out there against us and as of yet i have seen nothing from our camp.  Not Good!

If all the money raised and sent into National Organizations was used for the industry we would be much much better off.  Too many personal agendas protected instead of an industry.
