These groups ALL know this industry is being more and more accepted. More and more private landowners are thinking "why in the hell would I let some over educated under experienced DNR "biologist" manage the deer on my property"? I can buy my own better genetics and mange the deer the way I WANT, WHEN I WANT. Private landowners have watched these groups push for socialized hunting while NOT supporting the landowners for the work and cost they cover by providing habitat for "their" deer. I am one of the luckiest people in the world to have a large population of wild deer that seldom ever leave my farm (1,000 plus most years). I provide habitat because I love whitetails. I can remember when I didn't manage for them (20 years ago) and would be lucky to have 20 deer on the whole farm. We can only get very few resident only buck tags and non-residents can't even have any chance of drawing a buck tag. With no way of raising some revenue for the damage they do, why would I want that many around? I'd rather fence "theirs" OUT and let the others around me deal with the deer damage. The way these farmers will do it is by calling in the Game Fish & Parks, they will have to come out at night and shoot em off bait pyles in the name a depradation control, they also won't open their land to the public. Landowners in this day and age who want to manage for quality deer aren't going to open up their land for a public free for all, PERIOD. Most of these Wildlife Federation QDMA whiners who ***** about not having anyplace to hunt have done this to themselves. They show up opening day with 5 people when they have permission for one, shoot the only deer the landowners told them NOT to shoot, leave gates open, drive in fields when it's muddy rutting them up and a hundred other things. Most of these a$$holes won't even say hello to ya unless it's getting close to deer season and then they try to be your best friend. Amazing. These groups are watching their numbers and quality decline and the commercial operations getting better quality and numbers because we manage for it. These groups HATE ANY KIND OF COMMERCIAL HUNTING, HIGH FENCE OR LOW FENCE. People will always whine about not having something as good as others, that's their choice. If being a landowner is sooo easy, just go to the bank and borrow a couple million for a few hundred acres. It's simple. Then when they get so worried about the rest of the people who don't have any place to hunt, open it to the public. Somewhere in that mix they will have to figure out how to make the land payment and the free loaders sure won't help. Times are changing, South Dakota pheasant preserve license sales were up 25% this year for non-residents and the regular license for public land was down 25%. People who can afford it want to hunt where the birds and deer are and these people hate it.
