I have two deer that i have been raising in my back yard. I would love to buy a farm or at least 100 acres plus it will need a house of course and start breeding and raising whitetails with a few other things on the side. The only thing is my job will def not pay for 100 acres and a house. Anyone can get a loan but deer farming is pretty much impossible to make any sort of money in the first few years without investing more money into the farm. so if you guys have any suggestions or know of any farm grants i could look. What i need is like a college loan where you only pay interest or you dont pay anything at allfor a few years. so if you guys could give me some help or share your story on how you started up. Thank you

SizeMatters,You don't have to think like your name suggests!:) Start with developing a feasible plan that will help ensure your chances of success! I'm deffinately not trying to bring you down but in the current economy do your best to plan a BIG party but plan well so you will BE at your party! Talk to a LOT of people and it will be easy to get a farm going you can be proud of and one you can easily enlarge as the economy improves. Best of luck..............If you need to talk or have ? just ask;):)

I agree with Wayne start small work your way up to the big farm. IF you currently do not have any land or enough land to raise deer you can always look in to boarding deer at another location and learn from that experiance. My oppinion in deer farming is You dont have to go all in to win. Just continue to grow and do something defferent every year. Good Luck and have fun

i totally agree with you guys but this is the thing im not planning on buying 100 acres and the next day filling every acre with pens. i just need about 100 acres because i have two kids i dont want to start out on a 10 or 20 acre spot and have to move everytime we make more money and can expand. i plan on using most of the land for other things such as crops to sell to local farmers and the amish. which is also how i plan on feeding all my deer so i dont have to pay for nearly any feed at all. all i need is a loan that you only pay interest on or you start paying a few years afterwords.

Only spend what you can afford to lose.I have seen the deer industry boom & bust twice.Where on the bell curve do you feel the industry is now?If its near the peak or on the wrong side. Should you borrow money? Identify the risks to the industry & manage for these risks.Deer will always have value for many reasons. Look at your backup market if your primary market crashes. This is perhaps what you should base risk on, any thing better is cream.Be adaptable & the very best of luck. Sharkey

Let's see....100 acres @ $3000-$5000 / acre... house, well, sewer system and driveway. You are looking at close to a million $$$$ without any deer fence or equipment. Better start playing the POWER BALL!

I dont know of any Grant type loans for deer farming or any ag. grants either. You could approach as a small business loan but not sure with the banks holding on to every dime if they would consider live stock. You could possibly lease or rent area then slowly expand on that. I do wish you the best and let me tell you will love raiseing deer what ever the way you find to do.
