I need some help on something

i was thinking about selling some scent this year (it would be my first year) just in local sporting good stores and local country stores. Which way do you think it would be better, to try to sell the scent to the store or sell the scent on consignment through the store? i know it would be good to get the money up front , but i also think it would be good to get the scent in as many stores as i can, so if the store doesn't agree to buy the scent, should i offer it to them on consignment or just not have the scent in that store at all? i have been discussing this with some other people. one guy told me he would not put it in the store at all if they wouldn't buy it up front, but i think the more stores it's in and the more people see it, the better chance i have of selling more.



His Opinion: Sell it only to stores who will buy up front, b/c if you sell it on consignment he thinks they will steal it or keep it and make a one time profit.



My Opinion: Sell it up front or Sell it on consignment, get it in as many stores as possible the more people see it the more you are likely to sell

I think i would give them the option of both!!!Buy it up front at a discount and save some cash or do on consignment at a little higher price!!! I am now your first partner in this venture so pm me and i will give you the address to send a bottle of doe in heat!We need some good scent way up here!!!!LOL...Good luck with yur venture!!!

I have sold it in the past and found when you are not some big "Brand name" it can be hard to get some people to try to sell it the first time. I told them , No risk to you and I will take back anything that doesn't sell. This gives a strong view of your confidence in your product and no risk for them.....why not sell it for you???? All of my urine was caught as the deer peed and no slat floors or other contamination so it was pure and clean. Time consuming but the best product you can have. It also needs to be refrigerated so it doesn't go bad and stays fresh. Good luck Jim

I have a friend that does this here in NY. He does the real thing. Brings his does into heat then collects he urine. He also does dominate bucks. He provides a small refrigerator and sells his on consignment. He also sells at gun shops, taxidermists shops, archery shops. He uses alot of small retailers. If you pm me I will give you his name and phone number. Don't think he has a web site. It's up to him if he wants to share with you. Although I think you are far enough away from each other where you shouldn't be competition.

Clay I have a friend that sells urine through his company.......he sells in quite a few stores....he would probably by your urine wholesale if you are interested in that route as well....of course it would be sold under his companies name though.....but hey.......a sale is a sale is a sale......he would buy it from you by the gallon...........oh well it is a thought...

Clay that might be a good idea dennis has if you have lots of product!!You could get your feet wet down there with a few stores and people to get your name out there and sell the rest in bulk untill you hit it big and then you will have to go buy a boat load of does!!LOL

Has there really been a big problem with people stealing deer urine



I would try to get it in as many stores as I could and create a good website to sell it on as well.

Clay, What kind of deer urine do you want to sell? I know that sounds stupid, but what I'm getting at is do you want to sell deer urine that you collect all year around like most everyone else does. Or do you want to sell custom deer urine. ie doe in estrus, dominate buck, drag lines, tarsel glands, etc. Something that really gets the bucks interested, not just a curiosity scent. Also remember what you sell has your name and reputation on it. Do you want to sell outright to a store and have them sell product your product after it's effectivness has worn off? Because they will sell whatever they can to get their money back. Personally I think consignment is the way to go. Also I pm'd you my friends name. I know he can give you good advice.

Clay, I would sell it on consignment at first its a lot easier. to get the stores to carry it that way. If you ship it farther away from were you live to them were you cant just stop by you will get burnt on some not paying been there done that, but once you get a list of reputable clients it will be worth the lost money in the long run. We always get all our scent back every year and just reimburse the ones that pay up front and send fresh the next year.If you don't they will sell it for the next 100 years if they need to just to get there money back and that will give your product a bad name in a hurry.

Dennis, I might be interested in selling some scent in bulk to your friend. Let me know what kind he wants and how much per gallon he pays. Been selling scent in Missouri for about 6 years but ussally can get some extra every year.

Well, I will say it here.......in heat ,estrus , pheromone scent doesn't exist in a bottle . I know of top name trapping scent makers who spent thousands of dollars with science labs to find out how to preserve this pheromone and the longest they could get it to last with ANY method was 4 hours. This is not like the rest of the ingredients of urine it is like "fairy dust" as it is specifically designed to disappear in this amount of time or less in nature. Just think if this "odor" could last longer.....a buck would go crazy trying to find an "in heat" doe if all the trails left by does still smelled of "in heat" for many hours or days.....he couldn't.... so it is there and then disappears and if a buck hits a trail with it...he is able to , in a short time and expense of energy, able to find and breed her. Then she looses the ability to produce this and the bucks leave her alone and find other does ready to breed. It's like tracking specific deer on the snow in a woods full of tracks....impossible , but if your deer is bleeding , then not too difficult. Most all scent people will tell you they have this in their bottles but after all the collecting and processing and bottling but especially time, I really doubt that they do.

What you do have is urine , yes feminine , yes estrogen , and what ever else a deer has in it. It will work on the young bucks for sure and many others but if it is clean , it will not HURT your chances as some things you put out can. I have heard of many hunters saying that they put out some scent or lure and when a big buck hit the smell they turned and bolted....saying they recognized something in the smell that was not natural or they remember with bad results. I am not putting anyone down with selling scent. It is a good side business and the results for the hunters good if you have a good product. One time I had a buck trying to mount a doe in heat during the rut and I got her into a side pen and just as she peed I caught her urine. I used plastic margarine bowls attached to an 8 foot long stick. I took this to the woods bowhunting in the morning expecting to really find out how in-heat urine affects a buck. Hours later I finally had a buck come through several hours later. He stopped, smelled it and then just turned the other way and left. Told me that the pheromone had already run its course and was gone. Jim
