HSUS is attacking us with a program on animal planet right now.......I have said we need to have guidelines for hunting preserves many times.......if we don,t we will all be in the tank very soon!

Dennis, where were the hunting? US or Canada? It is important to have a release for people who come in to your property to hunt, ... still pictures only, video only with authorized release..... stated 10,000,000.00 penalty in the release for unauthorized publication/broadcast.

For all those members who watched the TV show "Canned Hunting" last evening produced by the Humane Society of the United States, and for those that did not, it was the same distortion of the facts and out and out lies, which is so typical of HSUS. Your association will be meeting with representative from Safari Club International, the Nation Rifle Association, our EWA lobbyist and leaders in the industry to develop a strategy for rebutting this misrepresentation of our industry.

What is never shown by these animal rights organizations are the positive things we do for the propagation of all species but again that is not their agenda. Never miss an opportunity to tell someone the good that is done by game ranchers and breeders across this country. Remember there is 20% on each side of the issue whose mind will never be changed but for those 60% who don't oppose what we do but just don't know what we do we must keep our business and industry ethical and above reproach.

Curtis the show was filmed in NewYork state and in Texas. The people filming it had hidden cameras. I hope Nadefa has a comeback soon or we will all be eatting deer meat for a long time.

that show was so poorly made, they base the whole industry on a few bad preserves. But that is how things go. Let that be a lesson to preserve owners as well, you have to conduct yourselves like a professional at all times. I do agree those preserves were rediculous in leaving tame animals and breeder pens so close to the lodge, no one hunting there should have to see that, but still, how many preserves did the investigators have to go to find bad one's? my guess is at least a half dozen didnt make their program because they werent cruel or easy enough to get dirt on, to film. I was very embarassed (for our industry) by some things that were filmed at those preserves, the camera dont lie guys.

I haven't seen the show but if all hunting facilities just put the humane harvesting of the animals we raise for food at the top of the list of things to do I'll bet we wouldn't get put in these situations. Just put the humane harvesting of our animals first that are in our care till they are harvested for food it's that simple. If hunting facilities can't follow that simple rule they shouldn't be in business as they damage us all.

These clowns at those "shooting" preserves, not hunting preserves that they did get filmed are hurting our industry as well as there own out of pure stupidity. I seriously can't believe someone would actually drive someone through the animal pens to get into the hunting area and then let the lady pet some of the animals that are there to be hunted(goats). And then these auctioneers who conducted an exotic sale and actually ran the animals through a sale ring with whips and loudspeakers, no wonder the animals were bouncing off the walls. Absolutely no regard for the animals or the industry. Everytime they would speak, "stupid" would flow out of there mouths. How about the guy from TX telling them about all the animals he drugs, why would you ever say anything about that to anyone, actually bragging that all the ones on the wall were ones he overdosed on and killed??? Truly embarassing, it's no wonder people look at preserves the way they do.

We didn't see the show unfortunately. One thing these people have to understand is that an animal being shot at a preserve is dying in probably the most humane way possible. How many wild animals die of old age??? Almost none. They die a very violent death because there are always predators. If a wolf kills a deer is that humane? Or a coyote kills a rabbit and on and on. Our animals are well cared for, pampered, until they are taken on a hunting preserve in a humane way. That is the message we should be getting out to folks.

I would say half of that crap was set up to show that way.I mean how many people ride around in their pickup with a syringe stuck in the seat??? I dont know if anyone else noticed but the syringe that was stuck in the seat was a 1cc syringe!!! I wonder how many animals he overdosed with that syringe. I guess we will never know if it was set up or not.If That guy is dumb enough to admit to ANYONE that he screwd up on that many animals needs to be run out of the deer industry.I would be sick if i screwd up and overdosed my worst deer or any deer for that matter. I sure as heck wouldnt be tellin a soul about it thats for sure!!!

I am glad to see a lot of you fired up about this. We need to be......it is about time we take our heads out of the sand and push for something to be done so we are not put into these sorts of situations........this is serious stuff guys......there is a bill being produced right now to try and ban high fence hunts nationally.......if that isn,t enough to scare you it should be.........yes it is a far way off from being passed into law but just then fact that it has gotten this far should be a wake up call to all of us. We need to get rid of these losers out there that have no regard for the animals and are only worried about making a dollar any way they can......they will be the end to us all if we continue to allow them to stay in business......they will continue to be ammunition for the extremists and will only cause us more harm in the future. They need to be eliminated.......we need to distance ourselves from them in any way that we can..............I happen to agree that the program was very poor but ...to someone who knows nothing about our industry it was enough to turn their opinion about us in a very negative way..........I hope we can rebut this attack and get things turned back in a more positive direction.

Has anyone ever heard of the hunting ranch in Texas? My guess is no!!! My guess is it was a Hsus setup!!! Nobodys that stupid. Hsus needs to be exposed on this one and Nadefa,SCI and NRA needs to call in the FBI on this one if it was infact and Hsus set up...

HR 2210 IH

112th CONGRESS

1st Session

H. R. 2210

To amend title 18, United States Code, to prohibit certain interstate conduct relating to exotic animals and certain computer-assisted remote hunting, and for other purposes.

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

June 16, 2011

Mr. COHEN (for himself, Mr. SHERMAN, Mr. MORAN, Mr. GEORGE MILLER of California, and Mr. LANGEVIN) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A BILL

To amend title 18, United States Code, to prohibit certain interstate conduct relating to exotic animals and certain computer-assisted remote hunting, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘Sportsmanship in Hunting Act of 2011’.

SEC. 2. TRANSPORT OR POSSESSION OF EXOTIC ANIMALS FOR PURPOSES OF KILLING OR INJURING THEM.

(a) In General- Chapter 3 of title 18, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following:

‘Sec. 49. Exotic animals

‘(a) Captive Exotic Animals- Whoever, in or affecting interstate or foreign commerce, knowingly transfers, transports, or possesses a confined exotic animal, for the purposes of allowing the killing or injuring of that animal for entertainment or for the collection of a trophy, shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 1 year, or both.

‘(b) Computer-Assisted Remote Hunting- Whoever, using any instrumentality of interstate or foreign commerce, knowingly makes available a computer-assisted remote hunt shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both.

‘(c) Exception- Providing an instrumentality of commerce, such as equipment or access to the Internet, is not a violation of subsection (b) unless the provider has knowledge that the equipment or access is to be used for a computer-assisted remote hunt.

‘(d) Definitions- In this section--

‘(1) the term ‘confined exotic animal’ means a mammal of a species not indigenous to the United States that has been held in captivity--

‘(A) the majority of the animal’s life; or

‘(B) a continuous period of 1 year;

‘(2) the term ‘captivity’ does not include any period during which an animal lives as it would in the wild--

‘(A) surviving primarily by foraging for naturally occurring food;

‘(B) roaming at will over an open area of not less than 1,000 acres; and

‘(C) having the opportunity to avoid hunters;

‘(3) the term ‘computer-assisted remote hunt’ means any use of a computer or other device, equipment, or software to allow a person remotely to control the aiming and discharge of a weapon so as to kill or injure an animal while not in the physical presence of the targeted animal; and

‘(4) the term ‘instrumentality of interstate commerce’ means any written, wire, radio, television, or other form of communication in, or using a facility of, interstate commerce.

‘(e) Construction With Other Law- Nothing in this section limits the power of State and local authorities to enact laws or regulations concerning computer-assisted remote hunting facilities.’.

(b) Conforming Amendment- The table of sections at the beginning of chapter 3 of title 18, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new item:

‘49. Exotic animals.’.

This bill has some rather questionable sections that may give us some more supporters in fighting it and some sections of it will be impossiable to enforce.

For instance

"the term ‘confined exotic animal’ means a mammal of a species not indigenous to the United States that has been held in captivity--

‘(A) the majority of the animal’s life; or

‘(B) a continuous period of 1 year;"

That would include most every mammal domesticated in the USA except for whitetail deer and elk. I mean it's conceiviable that this could be used against all farmed animals in the future. All they have to do is eliminate the following part of a sentence sometime in the future, "for the purposes of allowing the killing or injuring of that animal for entertainment or for the collection of a trophy" and you have have outlawed all meat production in the USA.

I think the beef, pig and chicken growers should be informed of this bill as it can be a direct threat to their welfare down the line by the HSUS. It change in this bill to put all ranchers out of business.

Kill a stray dog or cat and prison for a year.

Pheasant preserves thing of the past

Non native fish in lakes under 1000 acres illegal to take

The wording says any exotic animal..which would include wild hogs if they were in any were obstructed from moving freely (rivers, cattle fence, highway fences..ect).

It opens it up for a wide interruptation of this law that could effect most everyone.

I thought,(was told)the game reserve associations there had codes of practice.

I'd start by expelling those who have brought the industry into disrepute,& then, promoting your codes of practice,& the positive measurable benefits of the industry.

It might be worth a re-read of the fair chase thread on this forum.

You are only as strong as your weakest link.

How true that is........and we have a lot of weak links in this industry......I just hope we do something about them before it is too late. Lots of great people in this business and I would hate to see them suffer because of a few bad apples.....

The younger guy with the goatee that said he would chase the goats to them was a different guy then the older one that said "We do not chase DEER to anyone". I hope the one got fired or worse. Also, how many animals do most of you tranq. a week? The one guy said he drugged 30 or 40 a week. Do you think he could have tranqued that many animals with that needle stuck in his seat? If they were that tame, why would he have to "chase" them anywhere? That was not a pneu dart, that was a needle like I use since I am a diabetic. I also loved the way the couple kept saying "if he caught us, who knows what would have happened, we could have been shot", yet none of them that I saw had a gun. Maybe I missed the part where the "bad guy" runs back to his truck and gets a gun? PPPPPPFFFFTTTTTT...........I almost wanna cancle everything.........

Just like I have said for almost twelve years after Montana was hit by these stupid ideas. This type of ellimination of computer hunting is just a start to get rid of all hunting. Do we really need more laws to stop this type of activity? Isn't there enough on the books to stop computer hunting?

The industry has to focus and make hunting harvesting of these animal the same way as hunters thin out the wild herds as the most humane method of harvesting these animals for food or our whole industry will be under a law like this soon enough. The focus is fair chase for the antis when we should make hunting harvesting the only humane method of harvesting these animals. This is a humane slaughter method for this type of animal. Anything else is really inhumane to the animal.

Funny thing about this big deal on killing these elk and deer behind a fence with a third person where money can be made is that in Montana as long as no money changes hands you can kill them behind a fence or in your trailer it makes no difference to the State officials. All this crap about fair chase or a chance to get away is so much crap. We don't allow cattle a chance to get away and a deer on a harvest facility should also not be allowed that chance as we are only harvesting them in the most humane method we have. If hunting domestic deer behind a fence is inhumane then so is hunting and harvesting wild deer and elk. This industry always plays into the agenda of the antis and as long as we continue to do this we will always get the short end of the stick. Industry big boys that lead our industry should change the focus to humane harvesting of domestic raised deer and elk. Wake up people, feel good laws will kill this industry.

The only reason these laws are being made by the antis is to kill the industry. Emotionalism is what these people are good at and they are winning this fight to close down the industry. This industry can't just do business as usual. The tactics our industry is using in our fight to keep our harvest facilities isn't working. If it's not working change the direction and focus or lose the fight.

We should try to make a law that this is the humane method of harvesting these domestic raised deer and elk.

The only time I used the legal method of harvesting 10 elk under USDA laws was when I sent them to a USDA facility with a hired man and they had no place to unload them and shot them in my trailer. Had I been there I would have just turned around and took them home as that was the most inhumane treatment of animals I personally have experienced.

I did learn in our industry rule making that we should be making our own laws instead of letting antis make them for us. Fighting these laws or trying to get by with these laws somehow after the antis drafted them into law is not working for this industry.

Isnt that what the biologists and game wardens do? Insure we all follow the laws?!?! There are laws we have to follow, period. We are targets and always will be. We take attacks like this and hope they go away and do nothing about it. WE don't dispute them, we don't put out anything to debunk them. I doubt anyone has even messaged animal planet to let them know how inaccurate their show was. Sorry to be like this, but I am fed up and I am almost 100% positive that I am not gonna start deer farming. I am not gonna hide and be fearful of what I do when it is 100% legal. Knowing some tree hugger with their own agenda can hide a camera in their clothes and edit it to make me look like I am some kind of criminal and monster, well, I wont do that.
