I have 2 fawns with a small lump on their right lower jaw almost below their eye. Could this be the beginning of lump jaw? They are hard to the touch but not very big. I took some pictures with my phone I hope you can see them. The pics are of the same fawn.

Its seems unanimous. Well the lumps have just appeared in the last few days how do you think I should proceed from here? I have read other threads about lumpy jaw and it seems to be a lot of different ideas on it. We have baytrill, nuflor, penicillin, draxin, excede, la200, and possibly some others I have not had the privledge of using yet. I would really appreciate any help you can give me. This is my first time bottle raising fawns so be kind.

I have seen some fawns get a lump on thier jaw only to disapear a few days later. I personaly would keep an eye on it for a few days and see what happens. Then procede from there with your treatment options if it seems to be growing.

Hate to be the dissenter in the group but I don't believe that is lumpy jaw. We get a couple of those every year on our fawns and it is after they begin eating hay and I think it is just some swelling from a cut. We only resort to antibiotics if it lingers. The bumps almost always go away in a few days. I have heard that true lumpy jaw can be a death sentence.

The lump could be Fuso...but it also could be impaction if the fawn is eating grain. Cutting teeth....Just an infection from something they pickup in the dirt they eat. I had two cases this year and both times I used 1 1/2 cc of Penicillen in the front shoulder and it was gone in 24 hrs. Fuso (Lump Jaw) is quick and it usually has the whole side of the face or both sides within the second and third day. If I thought it was Lumpy Jaw I would give 1/2 cc of Draxxin with 1cc Nuflor (sub) 2 cc of Vitamin B complex. As Always........Just what has worked for me.

I agree with Steve. alot of people see a lump and think OH SCHITT!! Get The Shovel! But at the same time to overreact to symptons is never a bad thing in this business. Especially when they are fawns.

Just an update on the fawns. Stevel was right about the lumps. I gave both fawns some penicillin and 2 days later the lumps were gone. Thank you all for your help. It was extremely helpful.
