Hey guys:

Does anyone use ivomec plus? I have always used ivomec but Tractor Supply gave me the "Plus" version by accident and I am working some of my deer tomorrow and need it. I see it has another ingredient in it. Is this safe for the deer?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

i use ivomec plus but give the shot in the rear hind leg area . is that ok if not why not ? is it a differencs in the neck or the rear hind muscle different . please let me know either way . thanks

My vet told me that giving Ivomec Plus in the muscle can cause an abscess. That is why they say not to dart Ivormec Plus into deer.

Just curious as to how many people have had confirmed cases of Liver Flukes in there whitetails?

Liver flukes in wild whitetails here in WI is fairly common. So I have always taken the approach that prevention using Ivomec Plus is a cheap and effective way of avoiding issues in my own herd.

Any product that needs to be consumed by the animal in order to be effective is never as good as a direct injection. And since we touch every animal at least once per year, and Ivormec Plus is cheap and safe why not use it.

That's where the valbazen comes in on a rotation. You have to be carefull and use it when the does are not bred as it will mess pregnant does. I dont touch all of mine each year but whenever they are down they get the shot. Otherwise they stay in the rotation!

Roger are you still in the deer business? I thought I read from earlier posts that you were unfortunately selling out? maybe I read it wrong if so good to know you are still in the deer business!!

Yes I am still in the industry. I still own deer but no longer have a farm of my own. Laurie now owns the property. She is leasing some of the pens out to another farmer from the area. I didn't get all the animals sold at a fair price so what I did was buy Laurie out of all the females and all the semen that we owned together. Laurie and I still share ownership on some bucks yet and as they are sold off or if I later buy her out we will then end the partnership between her and I in deer.

I decided to stay in the industry and have in fact made some purchases along with the animals I had left that were not sold. There are several animals that were sold that I wish I still owned, but time will tell what happens next.

I currently own deer in WI, MO, OK, and PA. I also expect to be making some more purchases and may include the state of OH before too much longer.

I guess I may have to make some official statement about this all since some seem to think I don't have the right to post on the forum if I am not in the business.

Thanks for asking Dennis.

Thanks! Do you guys administer subQ as recommended or oral? Package says subQ only (referring to cattle) but vet says oral.

Dan - I use Ivomec+ orally and subQ. Not sure that its recommended IM. I've always put the Ivomec in a mix of graham crackers or ritz crackers, add water or milk to that to attain a spreadable texture, then spread it on a slice of bread and feed it. It is of course detrimental that your deer are familiar in the first place with crackers and bread.

What is the dosage rate of Ivomac plus and could I inject it into a small piece of honey bun to give oral.

The dosage is 1.1 cc per 100 lbs, but many give much more than that. I give 1.25cc to 1.5cc per 100 lb

It might work if you put it in the honey bun. I always added the wormer to smashed up graham crakers(1) or Ritz crackers(3 or 4), then added enough milk or water to the crackers to make a consistency that will allow you to spread onto the bread like peanut butter. If they detect to much of the flavor of the ivomec, they'll spit it back out.

No worries on giving it orally...it's going right to the problems.

Mark, do you give the ivermec + to pregnant does? Also is Ivermec + the same thing as Noromectin + ? I know they say do not give Valbazen to pregnant does.

Yes Cassie, I have always given Ivomec+ to pregnant does and have never witnessed adverse reactions.

I ''think'' it is the same, the Noromectin, and I have used it before. At any rate, I'm not home now so I can't check to be sure on that, but if you check the active ingredients on the label it should tell you the answer with surety.

I was listening to a vet from WI speak and he said there was not enough active stuff in plus for it to be affective for liver flukes.
