Knock down drug

Bam has been incredible for us so far. Just worked on some fawns and was able to have 4 of them down and out with 0.2 cc of bam each in less than 10 minutes. They were back up and out of the building in 15 minutes after reversal.

If if was doing major surgery or collecting semen i would still use xylazine/telazol.

I have done probably 30 major surgeries on ONE deer over the last eight years using BAM or its component Medetomidine. Only thing I've added is sometimes I use 1cc Ketamine added after the buck is down. I have to go in his abdomen and open a hole up so he can pee straight from bladder to the ground. Some of these surgeries have been pretty invasive and have take up to an hour and a half.

The buck is 200# and the last surgery I used 1cc BAM, no Ketamine. Out for an hour and up in five minutes after reversal injected.

What is the shelf life of BAM after you mix it?

With telez/ xyl. It only last 3 to 4 days then I throw away what I don't use. I've tried freezing and just putting in the refrigerator and it dosn't last for me like some say it does.

Matt there must be something wrong somewhere. I have froze it for up to 3 months between use and had no problems and also just have it sittin in the fridge with no issues. I wonder if you had a bad batch or something?

BAM is good for a year after mixing. It will not cause abortions, works great for AI, we got 70% last year.

looking at my last bill a Telazol $65. thats 65 divided x 3 is 21.66

xylazine $85 per 50 ml n 6 to 1 is $3.40 per deer

Tolizine at$95 per 100 ml divided 100 x 2.25 is 2.14

that should be about 27.20 per deer at a 2cc dart n Idart most of my deer w/ 1.5cc I do not see were bam is any cheaper $250 per 11cc

BAM ends up being the same or slightly more expensive depending on your animal and needs. The BIG advantage is that it is A LOT SAFER. They are a lot less likely to get capture myopathy than with xylazine. Even though telazol/xylazine is safer than plain xylazine, they are still more likely to get capture myopathy than with BAM.

I have played with the Zoopharm recommended dosages for BAM for the last year and found that in MOST cases I can cut the dosage in half, therefore doubling the doses used from the 11cc bottle.

I darted a 200# buck in Oct with 1cc of BAM, Zoopharm recommends 2cc. Buck was down in five minutes, out for surgery for an hour, and up in five minutes after the reversal was administered.

I agree completely. As I said earlier in this thread, we put down 5 fawns with .2 cc of Bam and they were back up and walking in 10 minutes. Love this product!

Michael, when I had several deer with EHD that I could not handle, I would hit the 1.5-4.5 year old bucks with .25cc of BAM. It wouldn't knock em down or out, but I could walk up to them and administer shots while they stood. Gave em reversal while on their feet, and they were back to "normal" in minutes.

I put a doe down friday night. 1/2CC of 5 to 1 at 7:01pm She was out at 7:15pm. I treated her and reversed with 11/4cc at 7:30pm. She was at the feeder at 7:45pm.

I have had some BAM for about a year and tryed it on some deer this week I think that it may be batter then the telazol/xylazine my first time to use it.

So if I want to try Bam I get this from my Vet n if I were to dart a buck w/ 1cc and he don't go down can u dart again n w/ how much or if I need to dart my fawns can u dart w/ 1/4cc in a 1cc dart if this would work how much reversal Thanks

Has anyone checked body temperture when using bam?

Yes, my vet and I have checked body temp when using Bam and straight Medetomidine(the M in BAM). No problems.

I have used detomidine (Demosedan) one time and got very elevated body temps. Never used it again. It isn't the same as Medetomidine, although it will sedate much the same as Medetomidine, and reverses with antesedan.

You get a chart with the kit that shows how much reversal to use. You have three reversals you give. I have several times not given the reversal for the Butorphanol because I wanted it still working for pain relief after surgery.

If you dart a grown buck with 1cc and he isn't out in 10 minutes, hit him with another 1cc. With any kind of common sense reason you cannot overdose with BAM. The reversal is fast acting and 100% reverses the BAM. I've not had any deer stay out for more than 7-8 minutes after the reversal is used, usually on their feet in under five minutes.

I've had a deer out and he started to move too much during invasive surgery, just inject another 1/4 cc.

for fawns I usually put the BAM in a dart and fill to near 1cc mark with sterile water. Not a good idea to hit a deer with a dart 1/4 filled and the rest air. Fawns you can catch I use a hand held needle. For fawns I like to use the 1mg/1ml straight Medetomidine. A 1/2cc dose will knock out a small fawn. Reverse with Antesedan.
