This morning I administered 2cc Banimine, 8cc Nuflor, Vita B, Wormer. I cut open to drain but no yellow infection drained out, just a little blood. Anyone ever seen this before? Inner ear infection? Absess tooth? Necro? He also has raspy breathing and yellow saliva draining from mouth. Thanks Jeff

just saw Dr Shane of sugarcreek vet in ohio talk at ohios wdfo picnic, he showed pics of lumpy jaw. the lump was the size of a cantaloupe and looked like bone . If the jaw is hard this may be the problem.

We just cut one in the exact same place in a doe for a friend of ours yesterday. It wasn't quite as big...about size of a softball, but essentially looked the same.

It took awhile, but we did find the pus and it took us about 30-40 minutes to drain all we could. We cut on the bottom of the lump first and couldn't get pus. We then stuck a needle in on the side and were able to get some pus and decided to cut there. When we were squeezing on the lump, we also could hear that it was possibly pushing on the wind pipe, restricting breathing.

We gave 8cc Nuflor, 10cc LA 300, 5cc Vitamin A E & D & 2.5cc Dectomax. We kept flushing with iodine which seemed to loosen pus everytime we squirted it in there and massaged it.

She's alive today....we'll see how she does here in the next week.

shane said that lumpy jaw is quite rare, the deer lived until the presure from the growing lump off set the jaw making it impossible to eat and it died. sorry, not sure what he tried to combat the problem.

My first guess on this problem is an abcess. Some will drain and clean out and let heal. In the old deer forums I talked about the process of abcesses if you want to search the old site.

have had similar problem lanced bottom side used large needle poked and proded squeezed out and drawed out what we could injected site with 5cc durapen a long lasting penicilline cleaned area good with betadine wipes lump gone 2weeks later lumpy jaw is real common in my area we vaccinate with new state vaccine this year but still get a flare up once in a great while. GOOD LUCK! keep us posted

The vaccine given at birth is your best bet. This way it is preventable. The largest problem is your location and the availability you have to get the vaccine. I know of people that have lost bucks from necro in the skull. Usually when the antlers shed.
