I am a rehabber in CT and new to this forum - although its been my "bible" for years. I am looking for some input as to the best feed for our fawns. We have 8 that will be released at the end of August - not by our choice, it's the law. For the last 6 years we have used Calf Manna. Please keep in mind that we are completely run by volunteers and private donations, so money is always a consideration. We are just looking to give them the best start that we can.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions, and for all of the help and knowledge you have given prior without even knowing it.

Regards,

Sue

We use River City Milk replacer up to 12 weeks until they are weaned with decreased bottle feedings through the duration. Introduction to dry feed, native dirt and grasses at the first week of life.(keep in mind that too much clover will cause bloat) We use Purina deer chow textured with probiotics and Calf Manna added for a protein kick and a healthy belly. I realize that throwing caution to the wind as far as finances is not an option. However, you probably already know that none of this deer "stuff" is cheap. You may be able to get by on milk replacers designed for sheep and goats. As for dry feed, fawns will not break your budget. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for responding. We switched to goats milk last year and have had wonderful farmers donate, with wonderful results. So far we haven't had any issues with the Calf Manna, just wondering if there was something different we should be trying.

Thanks again for taking the time.
