Losing fawns - Need advice

I've lost several fawns in the last few weeks for no apparant reason. These were all 6-8 week old fawns. My neighbor 10 minutes has had the same problem. I just wormed a couple of months ago and worming again now through corn and feed. I'm thinking about adding some antibiotics to the feed, but I won't have a new feed delivery for another couple of weeks and want to get it in them now. What can I do to add some antibiotics to the feed and which one would you recommend. thx.
 
That is a good timer for clostridium to hit...also could be if they are eating corn.

Too much corn in a deer’s diet can cause a condition called acidosis that kills natural, digestive-tract bacteria.

A deer suffering from acidosis can no longer digest food,also if combined with wormer can kill even more of the "good" Bacteria.

Also corn can harbor invisible aflatoxin mold growing on it. Corn cannot be sold with more than 60 parts per billion (ppb) aflatoxin, but this does not guarantee that is safe for deer.

ALSO Poor storage and excess humidity can increase the amount of aflatoxin to the point where it is dangerous.

Good to know, but we feed Golden nuggets and just started worming them with corn last week. I had already lost a good number before then. I haven't lost a single mature deer, just fawns, btw.
 
I would give all of them 10CC of C&D antitoxin and 2 CC of either Alpha 7 or Covexin 8. It sounds like you could have clostridium. Excess heat and moisture this year is causing a lot of problems.



Also, I would cut back on some of the corn that you are feeding the fawns. Too much corn is not good for fawns.



If you are top dressing with any minerals on the fawns feed, I would stop that immediately. Go back to basics and see if that makes a difference.

all our bottled fead fawns are also eating Golden nuggets, But we also use another product by record rack called Breeder formula it is an all in one pellet and they have been doing very well on it. Most of them have been on it since week and a half of age.
 
Steve, if Painted is right and it is a digestive problem. Get them on some type of probiotics. Keep in mind when you feed antibiotics or wormer's they also kill the good bacteria with the bad ones. Any time you feed either you should also feed a good probiotic. Since we are in the hottest time of the year there is added stress. This is probably a combination of everything.

Paul was kind enough to rush me some shock effect probiotics and we've had that on the feed the last few days and put Agrimycin in the water for 5 days. I did lose one more buck fawn yesterday, but that was the first one in the last couple of weeks. I hope that is the end of it. I can't afford to lose anymore.
 
Texas "cactus" is bad for the fawns....I lost a lot of them my first year for some reason. I got rid of it ....the second year and my problems were gone.Relocate them if you have too... to a new pen.
