Below is an e-mail that was sent to Purina asking for their help in passing the legislation we need in order for deer farmers to survive in Missouri.

Purina's North American Headquarters is located in St. Louis Mo.  They employ approximately 6500 people.

Purina has always been a great partner for our industry.  They offer great products used by 1,000's of deer farmers nationwide.

Please contact your Purina Representative or contact the company directly and ask them to issue their written support for our industry. Thanks for your help.

Purina:

As you are likely aware the deer farming industry in Missouri is under attack by the Missouri Department of Conservation.  MDC has announced many new regulations that will end the farmed deer industry in this state.  The Missouri Whitetail Deer Breeders and Hunting Ranch Association has been working non stop over the past several months to save this industry.  There is currently legislation moving through the Senate and the House that will change the definition of farm raised deer from "wildlife" to "livestock".  I am sure that your are informed on this issue and know that the animals we raise have been domestic livestock for 10+ generations.  They are 100% dependent on the deer farmer for feed, water, shelter, health care, etc., etc.  They are livestock raised by farmers.
Many, many deer farmers in Missouri and across the nation are Purina Deer Feed customers.

We need your help to take get our legislation moved across the finish line and signed by the governor.

Would your company be willing to issue a public statement in support of changing the definition of farm raised deer from wildlife to livestock?

We really need your support on this legislation.  The future of the deer farming industry in Missouri is at stake here.

Very good thinking Bill.  I hate to see the loss they SHOULD take if they dont write the support on this matter. Very dumb business move on their part if they dont!

I believe that anybody that employs 6500 people in this state definitely has the ability to influence politics and has the ability to speak directly with the Governor on issues that supply jobs and create economic growth in our state.  Deer farmers are definitely good for the economy nationwide.

Just thought maybe it would be good to send a Email to MFA as well I didnt find a direct email address to the head office but here is their contact page

MFA Oil is a farmer-owned cooperative, which means the farmers who buy our products to fuel their farm operations own MFA Oil.  We currently have more than 40,000 farmer (member) owners.

Great idea. We should all ask our local companies we use for this support also. Feed companies, farm supply, vet supply, vets. It would even be nice for our vets to explain how much care we give our herd, maybe even explaining that they evaluate animals for cause of death, pneumonia, injury, etc, and still send off samples for testing for CWD. Honestly, my vet feels like it is an insult when he verifies a cause of death and then has to send off a sample. Orschlen's is another good size farm store many people use. Even out of state supplies will be affected as will as AI vets.

No response to our request from Purina as of yet.  Could be they are really busy or maybe whoever we need to talk to is out of the office.  Time is really short here.  If you know someone in the Purina system that you think can help us get a written statement of their support for legislation that will help our industry please give them a call.

Thanks to everyone for all of the support.

Bill any luck with Purina yet? Just curious if the folks we do so much business with will step up to the plate when we need them. If they don't then I guess maybe we don't need them all that bad. Hope they do the right thing... Not just singling out Purina here, our vets and others we spend so much money with have allot to lose like we do...

Purina has sent our request for their help to their legal department.  I suppose issues like this tend to move slow at the corporate level.

We continue to believe that they will take a stand with us once they research the issues and have a chance to speak with a broader representation of the industry, NaDEFA, ACA, State Organizations, etc.

Right now all I know that they have is an e-mail from me requesting their help.  I feel sure they want to verify the content of the request and they will likely want to speak with people they know and trust before taking a public position.

This is a great company that invested a ton of money in developing products for the deer industry.  I believe they will take a stand and support deer farmers everywhere as soon as they can work through their process.

Land-O-Lakes / Purina stands strong with Missouri Deer Farmers!

They sent us a letter stating their full support of the legislation to help the deer farming industry in Missouri and the entire country.

If anyone would like to see the letter send me an e-mail and I will forward it to you.

A big THANK YOU  to Land-O-Lakes / Purina for their support!

That's huge and should be used for every state fight! Now if we can get every big company that our industry supports with our dollars to get behind us. One small positive step at a time!!!

I got to speak to some real nice people at Purina when we were requesting their support.  I believe that they absolutely get it.  They assured me that they are in full support of our industry and they were willing to put that support in writing.  Our association is continuing to work with them to help support a day with the area State Senators and Representatives at their North American Headquarters in St. Louis.

The Land-O-Lakes / Purina endorsement was greatly appreciated by all of us.

If they do in the end support us and help with this situation then deer farmers in return need to support them back. They make a great product!
