Well the Missouri rifle season is in full swing.

I have hunted two mornings and one evening with only a couple doe spotted.

The weather is great the moon is good not sure what is going on.

Anyone else got a story/ picture to share with the rest of the deer world?

Best of Luck and press on...................Love is in the air   and a BRUISER could stay out a little to long lookin for LOVE!! LOL

The doe are all in the standing corn and thickets still hiding so the little yearling bucks don't harass them. Hunt the thickets. You probably are seeing lots of little bucks and no doe. Head for the thickets on the sides of ridges. The big boys will come there with the girls who have left their enclave in the standing corn ready for lov'n.

It sounded like a small war in SW Missouri. With all the pressure around my 20 acres, it is tough hunting. Good thing I can hunt my in laws 300 acres this week. They really started moving down here.

I wonder if we should all have our harvest checked for cwd? We should all call the MDC and see what percent they test of what we request.

The big ones should be moving now. A mature buck does not waste the energy seeking does like the yearlings, they will move, but just not nearly as much. They already know where the does will be. Good luck to you Missouri hunters. Post some pics of your success.

I have a quick story from last weeks bow hunt. I found myself a little honey hole on my Ohio lease last week. I went in one heck of a nasty thicket that funneled the deer between an overgrown goldenrod field and someone's yard. I was literally hunting 100 yards from the homeowners lawn. Anyways As soon as I sat down for my evening hunt I saw 3 does sneak through the rose briars, then all the sudden the brush exploded and out came a nice 130" 9 point,. I couldn't get a shot, but he got me really excited!. Then 10 minutes later a nice mature 120" class 7 point was heading the same path. I hit the grunt tube, he turned and came right to me. AND I MISSED!!. Worst thing was it was a 10 yard chip shot. I shoot my bow all year long, plus I had just killed one on our property here in PA a few days before, I don't know how I missed, Well technically I didn't miss entirely, I hit low in the brisket and cracked him in the sternum. It was very loud. He actually trotted 30 yards and tipped over and passed out for a few seconds, weirdest thing I ever saw in the woods, but I am guessing it was just from the pain. He then got back up, shook it off, and went back to his does. I have little doubt he will die or get infected, I think he will be just fine, their was no blood on the ground just a few chunks of fat and lots of hair. I am sure he'll be sore for a few days. My arrow was covered entirely in smelly fat. He was an old buck, probably 5 years old, really needed taken out of the gene pool.

I guess even though I raise big whitetails I still get buck fever, lol. If I didn't, what the point of hunting, lol.

I am disappointed bow seasons are coming to a close, but i like hunting period, weather it's gun, bow, or muzzleloader. I am off to West Virginia this weekend for their opening morning of rifle season that comes in next Monday, then the following Monday it's Ohio's shotgun season. I love this time of year.

I feel ya Matt. Buck fever is a bi×%# I missed a 180 in buck 3 years ago in Illinois. Only to shoot a 130 that was sniffing the hair I shaved off of the 180s brisket. I did kill a nice 8 this year in Illinois. 45 yd double lunged him. Got some big boys on trail cam there, but they where all night pics. I'm planning next year's trip for the 3rd week of November instead of the 1st week. Rut is always picking up the last day of my hunt...

Well I am just checking back in.

I finally got my first shot at a good mature buck this morning.

It has been a long cold and windy week here  in MO.

I had a nice mature 130" 8 point come thru this morning a little after 7am.

I could not pass him up. This is the smallest rack buck I have killed in about 10 years.

But like I said it has been a long week. He come out into the opening at about 95 yards in a low spot .

All I could see was the top of his back his neck and head. I let my 270 ring out the sound of death.

It was a perfect neck shot and he went down in his tracks.

Good luck to all hunters in all states and may your shots be true and your kills be quick.

Enjoy
