I was just seeing if I could get a few opinions on what the latest dates are that you would move pregnant does to a new pen. I know you want as minimal amount of stress as possible on your mothers so how many weeks or months prior do they need to be in the pen that you are wanting them to give birth in? No body likes stillborns!! Thanks alot

I move all mine to a small 130x130 pen the week they are supposed to fawn. I have done this for two years with no problems.

I usually move the does to the pens they will fawn in around two weeks before I expect the first fawns. They are used to the area, so after an hour or so they are as calm as always. Allen

how about transporting from one farm to another, i purchased a couple bred does that i still have to pick up, scheduled to fawn in mid may, when would be the latest recomended time to move them, thanks chris

Chris, I once tranqed and moved three does, they fawned 17,18 and 27 days later with no problems. They were moved approx. 60 miles. I am not recommending it, but it worked for me. Allen

If you have to tranq, my rule of thumb is not to do it less than 30 days before fawning. Having said that, I have had emergency situations over the past years that forced tranquing as short as 2 days before fawning. I was successful in all of those times, but the event was carefully scripted and executed.

I too move does into breeding paddocks a couple of weeks before they are due.

I hope this helps

Chris,

We purchased to bred does in PA & moved them the end of April to Indiana and had no problems. We did not have to tranq. them though we loaded them up thru a chute system.

Thanks guys, I have heard other stories from guys that are alot more anal about you "cannot" move them at certain times but this helps me out so I appreciate it!!

alright thanks guys, i am thinking we dont have to tranq and we will be transporting approx 5 hours, it wouldnt be an issue but hoping that i can put up another pen, but waiting for some of this snow to melt.
