As far as how it make sense, I am not positive.
I think the big lot might have gotten more bucks thrown in instead of just 12?
Also I think these guys that bought it AI over 100 does each per year. If you get 100 straws a year off 12 bucks and divide it by 50% then that is 600 straws/year. If they are good bucks then I would think by year 3 they are money ahead on just their own AI program cost? The pedigrees are plenty good enough to have high quality fawns that will fetch a reasonable amount of money.
On top of that there has to be a marketing value when you own something with a big, well known farm.
I don't think it was the deal of a century but, I bet they make it work for them pretty easily when the smoke clears.
