Need advice on attaching shade material

I had bought several hundred feet of the green 65% shade cloth years back and since I have a north/south fence up on a hilltop, it catches a lot of western wind. I had to do some repairs on the fence because the shade cloth had popped out several staples. I've bought some of Delclayna's 100% black plastic to put on-here's where I need some help. I have wooden posts driven 4' in the ground and I think they're on 20' centers. What do you guys think about getting some treated two-by's and ripping them down and screwing the plastic to the posts on the fence side? Do you think the wind will work on the fence?

1st, don't use staples, use clip-its. I selll these and would like to discuss with you. Call me at (717) 238-7715, ask for Henry.

As mentioned, I sell these items and can offer some advise. I have some photos of what you are think about that I could send you if you contact me.

Here is the first thing I thought of when I read your post.

Hmmmm. Sure glad it popped the staples and didn't break off the posts.

I would think long and hard before I put the shade cloth on in a way that the first thing to "give" in a strong wind is the posts. But that is just me.

You are correct but there are ways to make sure the fence is ok. I have some good information you can use that should ensure your fence is good. I will be at the Great Lakes Classic in Shipshewana Indiana as well as the Ohio Trophy & Breeder Auction in Ohio next month. Please stop by and lets discuss. Roger, I believe we had met at NADEFA this past year?

That is possible. Did you talk to a SUPER GREAT LOOKING BALD GUY? If so that wasn't me. I was the other bald guy:rolleyes:

You guys really think posts will break? Maybe I missed something, or maybe ya'll did-I want to know if it is a good idea to rip some lumber and screw the 100% Delclayna plastic to the fence-side of my posts. That way the fence won't be pushed on unless it is against the posts. And BF Products...as for the staples, I didn't use them to put the 65% green on, I was commenting on the fence itself coming undone from the posts. I had put the green on the opposite side so the west wind was pushing it away from the posts, thus pulling staples. No damage done, just some pulled staples.

I have used the clip-its from Henry at BF products. They work like a charm!

Woody, I got some samples of those new clips in the mail. Nearly impossible for me to get apart. I'm sold on them alone, but still pondering whether to put up my shade plastic.

We sell a lot of our shade cloth all over the country and with very little if any complaints. I know we talked before and I appriciate your calling me. I am not sure if I sent you the photos of some farms that I do have phots of, if not, call me again and give me your email address and I will take care of that immediatly. If the percentage is worrying you, I can get it in lesser percentages as well, I just don't stock that in this warehouse. The most I sell for is to keep nosey neighbors from scaring the deer or even to keep fawns from sticking their heads through, either way it works well. We have even sold it as a barrier between hunting land and the farm so deer don't get shot. I can tell you that you would not be disappointed but the choice is up to you. Again, thanks for calling me and God Bless.

Henry,

You did send me the pictures, and it looked great. My biggest concern is neighbors and dogs, even teens throwing beer bottles (yes, I found a few new bottles last weekend in my pens). Having said that, the less transparent, the better; however, the one stretch of fence I worry about is a north-south fence which sits adjacent to a county road with high traffic, on top of a hill, where the road also runs north/south. I'm worried about the hellish NW wind that comes with most storms, where sometimes we get 50 MPH winds. Posts are treated, pounded 4' on 20' centers.

with the wind flaps cut into it you should not have any issues. The photo I sent to you wnet through 2 hurricans with wind over 75 MPH and the fence still looks like the photos I sent. If you call me again, I will give you his name and number and you can call him, I am sure he would not mind, he is a great man and fellow deer farmer.
