I have buck fawn that is 30 days old.

Two days ago he developed a knot under his right jaw, it is hard and not moving.

He is also losing the hair around his hips.

What could this be, he is eating and playing and otherwise seems really healthy.

Advice greatly appreciated

Every year we have a fawn or 2 that gets a lump somewhere around their jaw. They get bigger until they break open and drain. We think it's from a cut that they get while eating hay. We do nothing about the lump but do watch for flies around the wound after it bursts open. If they bother the open wound, you need to get some fly repellant on it. We use horse spot-on on ours. You can get that at TSC, one brand is named Celebration. A drop or 2 does the job.

Its from teething, at/around 3-6 weeks of age teeth begin growing in. This allows for abscesses to form. They can be drained or left to break open on their own.
