non-contact infrared thermometers ANYONE using them?

anyone done and read any research regarding using non-contact infrared thermometers with deer?

mine our tame enough to put your cheek against there forehead but not the rearend procedure.

i would assume inside the ear would produce results

We use infrared in home building. They are great. You check gearbox, engine,etc. Don't know why they wouldn't read SURFACE temp. of deer. Can take the temp. off of siding or shingles across the street. Can buy one for around $100.

I don't think they would work. You need to get internal temperature to be accurate. Outside temp of the deer would vary so much from sunny to cloudy days. I do not believe the ear would be accurate either, without sticking it down in the ear.
