This is Collin from Whitetail Sales, i have dealt with many different health issues but there is one that i cant figure out. I have a yearling buck that has been packing his cud since he was 5 months old and was curious if anyone new any tricks to get him to stop. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Collin

Does he have a tooth infection? If so consult a vet but the ofending tooth needs to be pulled and be put on some form of antibiotics.

Look up arterial worm infection spread by the horsefly. Causes arterial damage to the carotids and one of the leading causes of cheek impactions in whitetail deer. Hit the deer with a heavy dose of fendbendizole. Nematodes can be tough to get rid of.

We had one do it for a year. We gave everything we could think of, and even dry lotted him for two months. Dropped him and dug it out multiple times, with no luck. It even busted and food and water would just run out of the hole. Finally lost him.

Collin, I have seen it in several deer over the years, What Dr Jay said is probalbly the cause but I have never seen a good outcome from it, I have been able to keep a doe or two around for a year or two for fawning but they usually don't last much longer. Good luck with him.

Call Dr. McBride from Texas and explain it to him. He helped us successfully with a similar situation but you are in a different state so he will possibly give you a different dosage than us.

Collin, I had a doe that did that for four or five years. I eventually lost her. Every year I would dart her several times clean her out and it would be no time and she would be packed again. She would have twins nearly year, a great doe but I failed to ever correct her problem.
