The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has taken issue with Sesame Workshop for signing up the American Egg Board (AEB) as a corporate sponsor for "Sesame Street."
PETA said eggs are produced under conditions of "horrible abuse" and are unwholesome, and it noted that it had sent Sesame Workshop "extensive evidence" of this but that the producer refused to terminate its partnership with AEB.
PETA - an industrial activist group that, like HSUS, promotes vegetarianism - encouraged its members to write Sesame Workshop expressing their displeasure.
For its part, Sesame Workshop said its programming is made available due in part to corporate sponsors, and it maintains complete editorial independence of that programming.
AEB became a "Sesame Street" sponsor as part of the board's "Good Egg Project" to educate adults and youth as to how eggs are produced and their nutritional value.
Some people have way too much time on their hands ... go get them Oscar!
